"Babe its time for work I gotta go."I said pulling away from my boyfriend. "Leon I'm gonna be late."I said. Truth was I had plenty of time I just had to make breakfast an get the girls up. "Okay baby."he grumbled letting me go he smuggled up to his pillow. Leon was so cute when he was asleep. I pulled on my scrubs then walked to wake up wisteria my 16 year old. "Wist get up its almost time for school."I said. "Mom I've been up for like the last hour I have finals this week."she said looking up from her text book. "Have you eaten yet."I asked. "I had cookies."she said still looking in my direction. "I'll make you breakfast then."I said slipping away. Wisteria was a senior in highschool crazy I know she will be 17 in a month. She studied super hard and took summer classes to bump up a few grades. I was so proud of her. I went into the twins room to wake them up. "Wilkid rose get up girls its time to get ready."I said. Rose and Wilkid are 6 now hard to believe they grow so fast. I walked back to the kitchen an started with pancakes and bacon. I made coffee an got out the juice. Everything was set and almost done by the time the girls came out. "Morning momma."rose said rubbing her face. "Morning babygirl how's my girls doing."I asked all three. "Seepy."the twins mumbled. "Half dead."wisteria said. I smiled a bit wist was just like me sometimes. "Well eat up and then get ready cause we leave in ten."I said as I served their food the went to wake leon up. "Leon I need you to pick up woah."I yelped as he flipped me over and was on top of me. "Leon the girls are up."I warned. "Baby can't you skip work today I wanna give you my attention."he said biting at my lip. I squeeze my legs tightly around him. I want his 'attention' but I had to go to work an get the girls to school. "1:35 is lunch I'll come home."I said grinding my hips against him. "Stop or I'll keep you here."he smiled. "Gross mom let's go."wist said. "Shit."I said pushing leon away. "Wist wait till you meet a guy or girl you love you'll act just like me and your mother."he laughed. "Ew dad just no."she groaned knowing it was true. Wist already had a boytoy but they weren't like me an her dad Craig was sort of a douche not that I told her that but he is he's got one chance to make up for being a square if he can't then imma step in but till then I just let it go cause she seems happy. "Head out girls."I said as the my grabbed their bags an followed wist outside to the car. "Here."I handed leon a list. "Pick all this up before the girls get home cause we need food and art supplies also Craig is coming over with wist after school."I said. "Stop scrunching your face when you say His name or wist will know you hate him and I'll get it all don't worry I love you have a good day PS your worth it."he kissed my lips gently. "I love you too an thank you."I said before grabbing my bag and leaving. "Alright let's get going."I said happily. I dropped off the twins first. They always seemed so excited about school well till this year now they act like it kills them. Just like me oh how its rubbed off. "Can we get Starbucks before get to school."wist said in a preppy voice. "Like totally."I said back in the same tone. We busted out laughing. "Fuck that shit let's get high."I said turning up the radio an blasting music off my phone. I was self medicated I lived in Nevada which marijuana was recreationally and medically legal. Wisterias therapist recommend it for her suicidal thoughts an her depression. It help so much I loved that she could smile now and actually mean it. Leon approved however he did get a tad worked up when someone calls us bad parents because of it. Wisteria is in the same boat I've rocked out in since I was her age depression hits hard an its great to know there's something to help with it. "So I was at school the other day and Mason's girlfriend Leah said adopted parents didn't count as really parents and I should kill myself because my real parents didnt want me."she said calmly. So that's what was bothering her for the last two days. "Wist I love you more than I even think possible just because your adopted doesn't mean your not my kid I raised you since you where 14 your mine an Leah just mad because her dads cheating on her mom with a lady who has herpes and her mom takes pills to numb the emotional stress."I blurted irritated at the stupid girl. "How do you know that."she asked passing me the blunt. "Her dad came in with a rash and her mom had her stomach pumped."I said simply working at the er had its perks. "Damn mason should break up with her."she said simply. "Does he know what she said to you."I asked concerned mason was like crushing hard core on wist he had been for like a year. "No I didnt tell him."she said looking away. "Girl that boy likes you and would do just about anything for you you needs drop Craig an hook up with mas." I said. "Mom he does not an Craig's not so bad."she said Defensively. "Alright I'm just saying."I said pulling into McDonalds. "To large mocha frappes and a large friend."I said into the speaker. "Alright that'll be $6.65 pull up to the next window." The guy said. I pulled up an paid for the stuff. I pulled up again to wait. "Do you need money for school."I asked. "I don't know."she shrugged I pulled out a ten and handed it to her. "Thanks."she said happily. I hit the blunt while handing the bag to wist and her cup then mine. "Have a good day."the person said. "Same to you." I pulled away. "Why do you always hide the blunt when we pull up somewhere."she laughed "cause when I was your age an smoked it was illegal well it still is in some places like in my home town."I said. "Damn that sucks."she said stoned. "Yea. You gonna be okay to go to school."I asked. "Yea I just gotta remember to give a fuck."she laughed. Oh my daughter I thought. "Well don't get into to much trouble cause after today we are flying out to see your grandparents."I said. "Alright cool thanks for this see ya."she said getting out once I pulled in front of the school. "No problem be good I love you."I said. "Love you too mom."she smiled shutting the door. I watched her walk side with some friends before leaving. I made it to work three minutes early. "Good morning Elliot what ya got for me today."I said putting on my Id card. "Need an Iv on 12 and vs on 2,6,an 9."he said handing me the charts. I got ready for 12 first. "Good morning I will be your nurse for today my names melody."I said washing my hands and pulling on my gloves. "How old are you sir "I asked. "I'm 17 my names Michael."he said. "Oh well your about my daughters age what school do you go too."I asked. "Ranmore high."he said. "You might know my daughter then her names wisteria."I said distracting him from the iv. "Yea we have third period together she really nice."he said a tad in awe at how fast I had done the iv. I don't like needles and he seemed like he don't either so fast was my only option. "Aw how sweet well the doc will be in to check on you have a nice day."I said with a warm smile u took off my gloves and washed my hands before i walked to the next room. "Good morning my names melody I'll be your nurse I just need to get your vital signs real quick."I said to the elderly man. I took his pulse and blood pressure. The proceeded to check his temperature and get down his symptoms since they hadn't been add to the chart yet. "Alright Fred the doctor will be right with you."I said washing my hands and stepping out. I repeated the same for the next two rooms. The day flew by as person after person came in. "Meldoy doctor miller need you to stitch up room 1 he's got his hands full with 8 and your the only one qualified to do it."Elliot said. "I'm on it."I said pulling out a kit and walking in the room. "Good afternoon I'll be your nurse for today my names melody the doctors a tad busy right now so I'll be the one to stitch up your arm."I told the girl. "Are you qualified."the woman who I assumed was her mother said with an attitude. "Actually ma'am no I'm just gonna wing it cause I didn't spend years in college preparing for something as simple as stitches no I thought I'd talk you through it instead."I said sweetly . it made the girl laugh. "Well your rude aren't you."the woman said. "Only to people that question my skills when they clearly have none."I smoked. "The girl laughed a bit harder. "Patrisha I'll be outside."she said leaving. "Thank you."patrisha  "no problem now why don't you tell me how this happened."I said pulling on gloves and examining the gash across her left wrist. I noticed old scars that looked like they had been smeared with scar cream previously. "I fell on a letter opener bring it to my mom."she lied. "Really well I got this one from falling on my eyebrow razor."I said pulling up my left sleeve exposing all the scares I had. "You no."she said in disbelief. "Yea a few times but it gets better just give it time I had to make a family of my own for it to get better."I said remembering before Leon just how bad I was. I use to mutilate my own skin because physical pain was better than emotional I my eyes. "Here."I gave her a piece of paper with my number after I finished numbing her arm. I started sowing her up as she rubbed the numbers with her thumb. "It will be alright I promise you just need support to walk on your own."I said with a soft smile before cleaning up and heading out. I hoped I changed her life for the better. I checked the clock to see it was 1:29 I had six minutes till break hell yeah. "Can you run this to room 8 then your free to go till 2:30."doctor miller said. "Alright. "I said bringing discharge papers to the room. I glanced over them to see the patient was Leah Maxwell and she had a bad vaginal tare. And there just so happened to be a guy with her that wasn't mason. Leah had never seen me in person so she didn't know what I looked like. "Here are your discharge papers ms maxwell."I said handing them over. "Thanks no Jill I'm not talking to you god and make sure it hurts that stupid plant girls gonna get it she needs to leave mason alone she such an attention whore all cause her real parents gave her up"she said smacking her mouth. Plant girl? Real parents? Mason? Oh hell no. "Excuse me."I said turning around. No no melody calm down you aren't 17any more you can't bitch slap her you'll go to jail I mentally screamed. I drove back roads to the school faster than I should have. I was maybe three minutes from the school when I got a call. "Melody lincast speaking."I answered. "Yes ms lincast we have wisteria in the office she's in a bit of trouble."the lady said. "On my way."I hung up. "God damnit."I banged my hands on the wheel curse cell phones and preppy bitches. I pulled into the school trying to straighten my scrubs. I walked in headed towards the office. "Mom i-."wisteria began. I held up my hand cutting her off. I marched straight into the principals office. "Excuse me."the angry mother said. "No this isn't an excuse for you now Mr Giles let me explain that Leah maxwell was in the er this morning plotting with jill standen over the phone I would be happy to get the video from the hall where I am certain you will hear her for yourself and as for your child she should rethink who her friends are."I said smoothly. "Well seems your ontop of your game ms lincast."he smiled. "Yes sir I am I remember all the days I spent in here I know my way around."I said confidently. "Who do you think you are."the woman said. I work my ass off to take care of them and my oldest wisteria sitting out there with her face cut open she is an honors student who studies every night to pass this stupid act test just so she can go to college your lucky I don't press charges on your kid for assault of a minor teach your kid to respect boundaries an choose her friends wisely now sir I apologize for my outburst in your office and ma'am I apologize to you for having a severely confused child now if you excuse me I have to get back to work."I said bowing and stepping out. "She's grown into a fine young woman."I heard Mr Giles say. Warmed my heart a bit cause I have grown up alot. "Let's go."I said to wist. "Your not mad."she ask. I shook my head slowly as we left the school building. I undid the back of my SUV and had her sit down. I grabbed out my hand sanitizer and cleaned my hands, pulled on my gloves and opened a stitch kit. I had a full medic kit in my car along with minor survival items. "Mom its fine."she said. "No your lip is busted and it needs stitches hold your lip out."I said sternly. She did as told and I numbed her lip and began putting three stitches in. "Done."I said cleaning up and tying the garbage up in a bag. "Oh my god wisteria what happen."mason said walking up with Leah. She stopped walking when she realized who I was. "Go away mason."wist said looking away from him. "But wisty what happened."he asked concerned. "She said go away mason."I chimed in. It wasn't really his fault but I had to put my anger off on someone of I'd kill Leah and that would go against my oath as a nurse. "Come on babe."she said pulling at him. "You know your a disgusting waste of space."I said turning around. "What."mason said. "Not you mason her she's cheating on you she came in with a vaginal tare at the er with a guy with her and she was talking to Jill about jumping wisteria I wouldn't expect you to know because your oblivious but I did think she was that convincing of a liar even someone as blind as you could have seen that."I said angry before helping wist in the car and getting in. I pulled out and glanced back to see them auguring. "Your going to hell."wist laughed. "If I don't change my ways."I finished half smiling. "So explain."I said after a second of silence. "Melinda carver caught me outside of ap English I felt her hit me but I blacked out I remember blinking and seeing my hands in fist and her face bloody my fist are a little swollen I'm sorry."she said. "Its okay baby I tried to get here sooner to prevent it but I couldn't drive fast enough I'm not mad at you I'm just disappointed in those girls."I said.  she nodded. "Am I suspended."she asked. "I'll talk to Mr Giles tomorrow I'm sure the other mother will drop it seeing as her daughters 18 and your a minor."I explained. "We won't press charges right."she asked concerned. "No but we're not gonna tell them that till your out of trouble for sure don't worry I know my way around the school system."I smiled. I pulled my pipe out of the middle consul and lit it. I turned up the radio and passed it to wist. We were seriously stoned by the time we made it back to the house. Wist phone started going off. "Its mason."she said laughing. "Dude answer it."I giggled. "No you answer it."she said throwing her phone at me. I hit the green button. "Wisty please I'm sorry I had no idea I didn't think she hated you that much I knew she didn't like you but god I'm so sorry I wanna come over to see you but your moms mad at me and I don't want her slipping me any horse tranquilizers."he chuckled the last part. I busted out laughing. "Ms lancast."he asked. "Yea god I can't breathe I'm not mad you idiot an please you needs some time with her cause I know you like her mas."I laughed. "Mom." Wist yelled covering my mouth. "You got it bad."I laughed harder. "Oh my god mom stop."she glared. "I'll go inside geez."I smiled. My work there was done. I walked inside a bit off balance. "Babe why's wist in the car."Leon asked. "She for in trouble so I picked her up its not her fault an I handled it."I said looking at the clock it was almost 2. "Hold on I need you to call Elliot an explain there's been a incident at the school and I'm in a meeting with the principal an uh I won't be able to come back today."I said handing him my phone. "Okay you go lie down you don't look so good."he said. I felt fine just sleepy like always I smoked a bit to much. "Mom I'm leaving with mason to go to lunch hope you don't care bye."I heard wist say but I was half dead. A few minutes later Leon came in. "He said that was fine Amy will fill in for you today."he said snuggling up next to me. "Babe no I need to get these off their contaminated."I said quickly standing and struggling to remove my clothes. I stood in my panties an bra. I rubbed my eyes suddenly feeling very awake. "Come here."Leon said seductively. I walked over before he pulled me on top of him. "What are we doing."I said resting my head on his chest. "What do you mean."he asked. "This what are we doing we're still kids barely adults and we have three lives that depend on us am I even doing it right."I said feeling like a complete failure. "Baby your an amazing mother  and nurse you try so hard for this family your worth it."he said sitting up and holding me. "I know it seems hard at times but that's life babe we fall down but have to get right back up we aren't perfect an the girls don't expect us to be your enough for me and the girls you just have to learn to be enough for you."he said rubbing small circles on my back. "I'm so glad your mine."I said he was amazing and always knew how to fix anything wrong with me, he was my saviour. "Let's take a nap then we can get the girls, pack ,an leave for Florida."he said. "I wouldn't want it any other way."I said drifting in his arms.
