Roses and Wild Lileys

I wake up to the thumping bass of my sound system, a weight pressed against my chest. Firmly clutched in the throes of my nightmare I fight for my life against it until a slender hand scrapes across my bare chest and firmly twists my left nipple.

Crying out and swearing, I launch myself out of the bed and immediately tangle in my covers and fall on my face. Muttering curses I unravel the death trap of my sheets and flick my gaze up to my bed. Sitting on what's left of my bed covers is a pouting chocolate haired beauty.

"Bubba you are soooo mean!" she whines.

" I'm sorry Li-"

"I was trying to help you with your nightmare stuuupid. You didn't have you throw one of your stupiiiid hissy fits!" she is obviously sleepy and I indeed did throw a bit of a fit but for Christ's sake did she have to make those puppy eyes at me?

Sighing I flop back up on the bed and my baby sister giggles, snuggling into my chest. "Did you have to pinch me so hard?" I mutter into the mass of curls on top of her head. Honest blue eyes peer up at me and she bobs her head up and down vigorously.

Rubbing my chest absently, I try not to relive last night's particularly realistic dream. God it felt so fucking realistic for just a dream. I roll my eyes at the ceiling. This guy in my head is driving me insane.

Oh yeah I can show you insane. CALL MY BABY LOLLIPOP, TELL YOU WHY. HER KISS IS SWEETER THAN A CHERRY PIE. AND WHEN SHE DOES A SHAKING ROCKING DANCE-

Shut up. I don't realize I said it out loud until Liley scoffs,"Rude much?"

"Not you, him."

"Ooooh. I thought he was gone." she whispers as though she doesn't want him to hear.

Didn't mother ever tell you it's rude to talk about people, especially when I'm right here! Rolling over I groan; having an extra voice in your head for the past five years can get a little exhausting, mainly because he's been trying to convince me that he's... well... me.

I bolt upright looking at my alarm. Damn it's seven thirty already! I'm going to be late!

"Liley why on earth did you not wake me up! I'm going to be late for school and get another detention!" She blinks at me, then scrambles with me to assemble all the parts of my uniform. I sit on the toilet seat in my bathroom while brushing my teeth so she can stand on the edge of the tub and comb through my hair.

"Kai-Kai I'm so so so sorry !!" she whines and I just give her a minty kiss on the cheek, sprinting out of the tiny room. Snatching my blazer off of my desk chair I pound down the stairs. As I'm about to round the corner I hear Liley shout out to me.

"Bubba your bag!" I run back up the stairs and grab Liley while slinging my knapsack over my shoulder. I triple time it back down the stairs and nearly plow into my mother as i round the corner into the kitchen.

"Hi mom," I brush a quick kiss on her cheek and pop Liley down onto the counter. Raiding the fridge I find the juice and chug as fast as I can without choking.

I turn to run out of the room but the doorway is blocked by my father, still in his robe and mug in hand.

"Going somewhere?" he questions, brow raised.

"School" I mumble in response. His expression only turns more quizzical. As I make to move past him he puts his hand on my shoulder and steers me to the kitchen table.

"Have you looked at the time?" he slips my bag right into the floor and takes a seat across from me.

"Yeah and I'm going to be late." I mutter, wondering what speech I'm going to get today. Instead of the lecture I'm expecting his eyes just twinkle in delight as my mother sets a cup of coffee on the table in front of me.

"Did you change your clock in September?" my mother's blue eyes peer at me over her shoulder as she lifts Liley off of the counter and onto my father's lap.

"What," I say frowning,"I just plugged in my clock yesterday..." my mother laughs, her shoulders shaking and knocking loose a few strands of her dark brown hair out of the bun it's trapped in. I look over to my father, his face is split into a shit-eating grin and his gray eyes haven't lost the amused shine.

I pout, indignant and upset that they're laughing at me. Well, as indignant as a confused eighteen year old boy can muster.

"Daylight savings? In September? It's only 6:53 not seven.." my mother chokes out.

"Oh..." I blush furiously and take a huge gulp of my coffee to hide my embarrassment. Liley quickly scrambles into my lap, mumbling an apology while trying to untangle my tie. She was the only one in this house that knew how to tie one right and she was only eight. And I was the one who went through four years of boy scouts and still couldn't tie a decent knot.

"Go upstairs and shave caveman, or are you trying for that rugged look?" my mother teases and I indeed have quite a bit of a five o'clock shadow. I try not to grumble as I go upstairs to shave.

In my room I quickly adjust my clock to read the right time and avoid any more embarrassing upstarts. In the bathroom I see the real reason my mother told me to come back up here.

I'm a total wreck. My silver eyes are dull and bloodshot, and there are dark bags under them. The stubble on my face makes me look all the more haggard and sullen. Anyone with eyes could tell I felt the way I looked. Quickly washing my face I shave and splash my face with cold water, pleased when I look in the mirror and see I'm not quite looking the part of a raging psychopath.

Now I have to face the most awful part of my life: Kimburton Academy.
