Ryan opened his text messages, hoping that he had gotten a text from his longtime crush, Karen. Ryan had loved Karen since the first day of the fifth grade. The day he laid eyes on her, his heart melted. Even though they had to go to different schools last year, he spent every night dreaming of her. The thought of being next to her again was mesmerizing. School was to be started tomorrow. He spent that night dreaming about what he would talk to her about. What would she have to say to him? Did she miss him? Oh, how he longed to see her face, to hear her smooth voice again.
It was Ryan's eleventh birthday on April second, which fell on a school day. He got into the classroom and put his green and gray backpack on the hooks. He sat down and opened his book to start reading. He always arrived to school earlier than most people.
"Happy birthday, Ryan," Mrs. Eicher, his teacher, said.
"Thank you," Ryan replied.

Once Karen got into the classroom, a bright smile grew upon Ryan's face. Karen walked up to Ryan and handed him a paper that looked like a drawing of an eye made out of words. The words formed a story about how much of a great person he was. This was Ryan's favorite gift he had ever received. He then grew a little hope in his heart that she might like him, too.

Ryan was awoken by his alarm clock beeping. As soon as he realised that he would be able to see Karen that day a glowing smile appeared on his face within seconds. He quickly got ready so he could ask his parents to drive him to school early. Once he got to school he pushed open the doors and went to his locker. After he went to his locker he went to stand in front of the orchestra room. He saw something that he never wanted to see.
There stood in front of of her was Karen. Karen was not alone, she had an arm wrapped around her shoulder. He didn't know who it was but he knew it was a male. That should be me, Ryan thought. Anger grew in his eyes. Before Karen could see him he went down a hallway. Not knowing where he was going the anger turned to sadness. He banged his head on the lockers in front of him. One of the locker edges hit his head and caused it to bleed. He slid down the wall sobbing.

Once he was done crying he got up and went to the bathroom. He got a paper towel and wiped the blood off of his forehead, also the tears that stained his face. He walked out of the bathroom to see the one and only Karen in front of him.
"Hey," she said. "It's great to see you."
"You too," Ryan said. "How was your summer"
"It was great," She replied looking down at the floor. "I don't think you have met my boyfriend let me go get him." Karen arrived back 1 minute later holding hands with someone. That must be her boyfriend, Ryan thought. "Ryan, this is Michael. Michael, this is Ryan," Ryan and Michael shook hands.
"Nice to meet you" said Ryan. Michael nodded, as if to say the same. Karen then went in the opposite direction hand in hand with Michael.

The rest of the day went okay for Ryan. The thought of Karen with someone else being with her broke his heart. He knew no other girl could ever compare to her. They didn't get him like her. She was the only one who could ever win over his heart. He felt as if she had ripped out his heart and tore it into little pieces. Then it was if she had taken a knife and stabbed repeatedly what was left of the torn up heart.

Once Ryan got home he went up to his room and went on to YouTube. He searched "how to get someone to love you". He clicked on the first video to pop up. It was titled 'How to Make Love Potion' Ryan followed along with the directions not even knowing if it would work. The directions said it had to sprayed into the person of their choices eyes, they suggested Andy Biersack. The potion would only work if it was put in the person's eyes before 24 hours of when they made it. It was said that the first person they laid eyes on they would fall in love with them. Ryan was willing to try anything for Karen's affection.

The next day at school Ryan waited for Karen to arrive. Like the day before Michael had his arm wrapped around her. Ryan got out a little spray bottle and firmly gripped it in his hands. "Karen do you think I could talk to you alone?" Ryan asked.
"Sure," Karen replied. They walked around the corner of the hallway and made sure no one was in sight. He didn't want anything to go wrong. He quickly sprayed to potion into her eyes. "Ow," Karen said. "Why did you do that?"
"Sorry, no reason." Karen walked off into the other direction rubbing her eyes. Some must have gotten in. Ryan couldn't help but overhear her conversation.
"Look," she said. "I just don't think that we are going to work out. I just don't feel the same way about you anymore."
"Well don't come crying back to me when you miss me" Michael said. Karen walked back to the hall where Ryan was over hearing all of this.
"I was meaning to break up with him a long time ago. We just didn't click," Karen said through sobs "I thought this would last. I feel terrible for doing this to him, I feel as if I made him angry. That was never my intention." Ryan hugged her letting her sob out her sadness. He never wanted to see her hurt. After Karen stopped crying she looked in Ryan's eyes and said "I know I'm sad and vulnerable right now but I just want us to stay friends for right now."
"I'm fine with that." Ryan replied.
3 years later
Ryan knew that the potion was a fake and had no real affect on anyone. Karen took her time but eventually gained some feeling for Ryan. They were a happy couple and everything was fine in life. Both of their family's approved their relationship. They thought it was good for them. They brought out the best in each other.
