Nat walked up the stairs, she knew Nerezza hated the basement so she would just bring her up to her room as fast as she could. It was the furthest point from the basement, and there was a ladder up to the roof her dad and her had built when she was six. It was a birthday present and she used it whenever she couldn't think. The roof was the best place to be at sunset and it was so relaxing.
Nerezza gripped her hand a little firmer than usual. Nat looked back at her to see what was wrong, Nerezza just smiled with a slightly paranoid look behind her grin, Nat ignored it. The pounding of their feet seemed to rattle their bones with each step. They passed Alex's door with its strange purple mist around it, like usual. It always got on Nat's nerves but at the moment she was more determined to get to her room. His room always smelled terrible, and it was embarrassing. She reached the pale green door of her room, and she swung it open with great force and a grin that rose to her face.Nat's bed had white sheets and a purple quilt that dragged on the floor, her pillows were a mixture of purples, whites, and dark blues. She had a small bookshelf filled with books, a white dresser that usually was crowded with extra books that wouldn't fit on her shelf, and a window with drawn blinds. As they walked into the room, Nat collapsed onto her bed, making her sheets wrap around her, Nerezza giggled. Nat looked up to see Nerezza staring at a book on top of a pile on the dresser, Nerezza grabbed it to get a closer look.
"I still can't believe you're alright with such a messy dresser, my mom would kill me if I just left books out," Nerezza told Nat.
"Heh, ya. How's she doing by the way?"
"Fine..."
"That doesn't sound like "fine" to me, but if you insist."
Nerezza stared out the window, she was clearly lost in thought, but Nat was just glad to be away from the creepy house.Nat then looked at the ladder hanging in the middle of the room, and back at Nerezza.
"Wanna go on a little adventure?"
"On the roof?"
"Of course, it's sunset!" Nat said, sitting up. Nerezza felt a smile rise up upon her lips. Nat hopped up, landing on both feet in front of her friend. She grabbed the shorter girl's hand once again and began to climb up the thin ladder.
Once Nat resumed her element of sitting in silence on top of the roof, Nerezza soon climbed up to join her. There was a pale green blanket strapped onto the shingles for sitting, and a brilliant scarlet radio sitting on the chimney. Nat laid down, staring up at the sunset, patting the spot next to her for her friend. Nat was always so talkative, but up here she was so quiet.Nerezza went and sat down next to her friend, she stared up at the wide expanse of space and the sun slowly setting The sky lit up yellow, orange, red, and a slight pink, making Nerezza realize just how tired she really was. She turned to Nat only to realize that Nat was already staring at her. Nerezza quickly turned her head back to the sunset, the sun was already two-thirds gone. Nerezza turned back to Nat, and stayed quiet for a few minutes.
"Hey, uh, Nat?"
"Something up?"
"I was wondering, what do you think about twins?"
"I don't believe I have an opinion whatsoever, but they're cool I guess. Why?"
"Well, I was talking with my dad recently and... actually nevermind. I was just curious I suppose," Nerezza said as she turned her head to look at the part of the sky that was filled with stars. Nat just decided to let it go and ask about it later.
