This is it! This is the day I'm going to ask Luke Hemmings to the Winter Ball.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize I had an audience. My name is Ashton Irwin, I'm a Cancer, I enjoy sunsets, long walks on the beach, and as you can probably tell, Luke Hemmings.

Luke Hemmings was everything to me. He had beautiful blonde hair that was usually in a quiff—unless it was a weekend and we hung out together in the comfort of one of our homes—he had the most beautiful shade of blue eyes. You could just lost in them, and honestly, I have on a few occasions.

We're both in our senior year of high school, so we've been friends for 12 years now.

I've had a crush on Luke since Freshman year when I realized I was gay, but I did have suspicions since 7th grade. It was the evening of the first high school party when Luke and I were totally drunk off our asses and we made out on the couch. Luckily he doesn't remember—and nobody else did for that matter—but I still can't help but remember that night.

The way our lips moved in sync, how his cool lip ring felt against my lips, how he kissed with so much passion, but also with such care.

After said party, Luke and I have grown really close and I can't help but feel like he wants to move on. I don't mean move on from me, but rather move our friendship to a new level. I catch him staring at my lips, which he then gets all flustered and says he needs to use the bathroom. Our cuddles have been a bit less friendly and more couple-y. He even would walk closer to me in the hallways at school or down the sidewalk.

But then again I could be imagining the whole thing. But I also knew that I didn't care. I really liked—if not loved—Luke and I don't want him to spend the Winter Ball with one of his many followers.

So here I was; it was Saturday and he invited me over to his house to play some video games.

As I pulled up to his house I could feel my heart beating fast; I still couldn't believe I was going through with this. I turned my car off and got out before walking to the front door. Luke had told me in his text that the front door was unlocked so I could just let myself in.

I opened the front door to be greeted with the smell of vanilla and sugar. I walked into the kitchen to find Liz—Luke's mom—pulling what looked like some sugar cookies out of the oven.

"Hello, Liz! How are you today?" I asked politely. Luke thought it was weird for me to treat adults with respect, but that's just how I was brought up.

"Oh! Ashton, dear. I'm wonderful! I was actually just going to send a plate of cookies up to Luke. Would you like some, too?" She asked with a smile.

"Sure, why not." I said. She loaded up the fresh cookies onto a plate and handed them to me.

"There you go, dear. Remember; they're hot! I just got them out of the oven."

I laughed and gave her a one armed hug. "Okay, thanks, Liz!" I said before walking out towards the stairs.

The encounter with Liz had really calmed me down, so when I entered Luke's room to see him on his couch in nothing by some flannel pajama bottoms; I wasn't that nervous anymore.

Luke looked up as I closed the door behind me with my foot. A big smile spread across his face as he got up and greeted me with a big hug.

"Ash! You're here!" He said as he pulled back. He took the cookies from me and put them on the small table that was next to the couch and in front of his bed.

I raised an eyebrow at him. "Uh, I said I was going to be here, Lukey. So why wouldn't I be?" I said with a laugh.

He furrowed his eyebrows as he thought about this. He shrugged his shoulders and smoothed out his face. "Yeah, good point! So, what do you wanna play? Fifa?" Luke asked excitedly.
