An average day, with an exceptional pal

Dan and Phil, the two boys who have such a deep friendship with each other, that people across the world have tried to make them get together, were currently walking down the sidewalk. Parallel to this sidewalk was a relatively busy street, for the time of day at least. The sun was just setting, the sky was turning shades of orange and yellow, and a brisk wind was blowing. All was calm.

"What in the world do you mean this outfit doesn't match?! It's all the same shade of black!" Dan's voice had echoed through the street.

"Quiet down mate, we're in public. I was just saying that a leather jacket does not work with those shorts, whether it's the same shade or not," Phil replied defensively, "You could have worn anything, and you chose black cargo shorts. And in this weather!"

Immediately after his statement, Phil began to feel a few drops of rain fall onto his head. Looking up, he noticed the dark clouds looming above.

"It's fine, I brought an umbrella." Dan opened up the umbrella he had been previously holding in his hand, and held it above the two. "You know, your outfit isn't the best either. I saw you wearing a tye-dye shirt under that hoodie, and not even a very good one either!"

"Excuse me?" Phil said with a scoff, while unzipping a small bit of his hoodie to show off his shirt, "This shirt is flipping amazing! Look at the swirls and colors; it makes me feel like dancing around!" He zipped his coat back up, "And at least I'm cozy."

Phil stared at Dan, and Dan stared back, for only a moment, before they both started giggling at each other, knowing that neither of them actually means the other any offense. The two continued walking in the good amount of rain that was pouring down, while still giggling to themselves and not really paying attention to where they were headed any longer.

It was supposed to just be a trip into town, to see the sights, and spend some time outside, but was quickly turning into a race to get back to their apartment cozy to wait out the storm. The rain was pouring heavy now, and it was hard for the two men to see three feet in front of them. Dan's shorts were doing him no favors, and his legs had gotten wet and cold, while Phil's hoodie was on the thicker side, and kept him warm.

"Dude, I'm getting mad shivers over here! You were right," Dan exclaimed through chattering teeth, "How much farther to the apartment?"

"It's only a few blocks down," Phil replied, with worry for his friend evident in his eyes, "We're almost there-"

He was cut off by a sudden car with a blaring horn coming toward them. They had unknowingly walked straight into a street. Both the men saw it, but Dan was the first to react, by shoving Phil back toward the sidewalk. The shove didn't end up working, as Phil had also reacted by trying to shove Dan in the opposite direction. The two of them ended up just pushing into each other, before the car had hit them with full force.

Phil got swept onto the hood, slammed his back into the windshield, and then went flying over the roof to land back on the street. Dan had suffered the opposite, by taking the impact straight to the chest, getting dragged under the car, and having several limbs get run over by the tires.

Things were no longer calm here.
