Chapter1: Realization
I looked out the window, my eyes fixed on the fading orange glow of the setting sun. Night thrives then. The pale gray of the night skies immediately made me step back and sigh. I had been feeling a little restless. I was never out of composure that’s for sure- unless that big white cat steps in and say otherwise. He would largely have a say on some “changes” that happened after that incident in the cat kingdom. He was one funny cat. I was Baron Humbert von Gikkingen. I had been this way for a long time.
It might have been an excuse for a good tease though. Both Toto and Muta had been engaged in conversations lately and they mentioned the brunette every once in a while. I’m sure what Muta noticed was certainly not because of what happened 5 months ago. It was certainly not because of her. It was just me. I wasn’t really having my time lately.
I pushed back the cup back to the saucer and thought deeply about what I tried to affirm. Haru Yoshioka kept me off guard when she said she had a crush on me. It certainly did not matter. Many people across all ages have been in love with me as a figurine. Haru simply admired the work of my creator. It was certainly because his creator was talented. He was a kindred old man, the one who named me “The Baron of Cats”. I was a gentle-cat of my own right...
If I remember correctly, her forwardness made me unable to keep my hands on the sides to feel her skin, which I don’t rightfully have, against my gloved hand. She was an amazing companion who instantly captured the heart of my friends. But it was certainly not because of her that I was having a slump lately.
“Hey Baron.” Muta called, his mouth was filled with whipped cream from all corners. He continued to chomp down which didn’t surprise me anymore. The fork that I had prepared for him along with the thick slice of strawberry shortcake might have been of goodwill, else an irrefutable habit already.
“Muta,” i acknowledged. I moved to rest my back on the armchair of our little office and faced the huge cat and egged him to go on.
“You promised Haru you’d be visiting her.” I tried to look uninterested as possible but the mere seconds of hearing the brunette’s name made my eyes go wide for a short while.
“I did.” I said.
“When then?” I sighed. “When Baron?”
“I’m not too sure Muta. I’m still busy.” I heard a stifled laughter coming from his mouth.
“Busy looking for something to do? Come on Baron. You have nothing else to do for the moment.” I gave him a look, stared for a moment and soon, and as expected, he gave up.
“Oh Baron, you’re stubborn.” I am not. I simply have many things to do. My desk is full of books that need to be read before I could order another cabinet full of brand new titles. Visiting Haru could wait. Could she? I get a little anxious just thinking about her. She might have forgotten about me.
“Well, you said it before, you can’t let women wait.” Muta was certainly learning. Hearing those words from somebody made me want to stand and grab my coat from the stand and go. I kept my feet on the ground though. The stillness of the night was not comforting for a man, a cat to go and visit a lady at night.
“Muta, you’re right. Maybe we need to visit Lady Haru...” before I could even suggest tomorrow, the White cat looked at me with a brow raised.
“You got it confused, Baron. We’re not going with you, you go see her by yourself.”
I was going... alone?
