Tuesday 7th of May 2014:

"Look mom, I will be 1 hour... 2 hours tops, I'm just going to the beach to get my last bit of sun before the plane home tomorrow"

"Ok, please be careful, just don't be late. We can't afford to miss this flight home. Beside I'm sure Jordan is excited to see you again"

This was Lucy's last day in Spain until she went home back to California. She had been living in sunny California for 10 years now. Jordan, her boyfriend, has been going out with Lucy for 5 years now and soon to be 6.

Lucy left the villa with a sense of nerves. She has been travelling for years now but she still never got over her fear of flying. She brushed off the nerves thinking nothing of it. It was probably nerves for the flight. Not a thought got into her head that today was the day her world will be thrown upside down. She walked past the rusty road sign. "La puesta del sol Beach - 0.2 miles"

The golden beach was glowing with each individual grain of sand sparkling in the sunlight. The silent waves crashing upon the shore making the sand glow more and more. The crystal water went on for miles and the fresh air completed the whole thing. Lucy laid down her white blanket in direct sunlight. She felt tense, she knew something wasn't right but couldn't put her finger on it. She pulled out her Iphone and checked all her social media. She called Jordan to see how he was, maybe something was happening back at home and that's what is rubbing up her the wrong way but nothing was wrong.

An hour has past and the sun was setting. Lucy opened her eyes to see a orange glow hover over the beach. You could smell the sea salt in the air. A smirk grew across her face and she got up and looked around. She knew she had some time before she had to go back. Lucy grabbed her blanket and strolled alone the water front. Lucy walked for about half a mile and noticed a distance cave. The sun was still setting and it was Lucy mission to get that sunset Instagram photo.

She walked towards the cave to get height. 20 minutes later she reached the cave. She saw a little entrance but it was in the sea. Her gut feeling was telling her its not safe and it she shouldn't do it but it also seemed right. She was getting pulled in. When she was next to the cave her anxiety left her and she felt fine. Lucy looked around and no one was to be seen. what if she hurt herself, or can't get out? Who will help her? she knew she shouldn't risk it but then again it was pulling her in again. She counted to 10 and just went into the water. The water seemed more calming then normal. She seemed at home. She seemed happy. It was getting darker so she knew she had to start heading home. Again though, her heart was telling her to go into the cave and look around.

Lucy dived under the water and swam into the cave. It was breathtaking. A cooling pool of green water was in the center of the cave. She got out of the water and walked on the stone. Green gems were lying around on the floor. They were like emeralds but so different at the same time. She went to pick one up but heard a splash in the pool behind her. Lucy turned. Nothing. "Hello?" No reply. Lucy knew it something wasn't right again. She saw a emerald like stone fall from the top of the cave. She bent down to pick it up not realizing it was sharp. As she picked it up she cut herself across her hand. Blood dripped down her wrist. Lucy dipped her hand in the pool to clean it up. Within seconds the blood was gone and so was the cut. Her hand looked normal. Her heart was pumping fast. She found herself trying to catch breaths and felt dizzy. She collapsed, but she fell into the green pool.

Moments pasted. It felt like days but it was only minutes. Lucy got out of the pool and reached for her phone. 7 missed calls from her parents. She closed her eyes, took in a deep breath and called them back.

"Where are you, you're an hour late. We need to leave for the airport so we can get our plane tomorrow morning but at this rate we will be late! what are you up to?"

Lucy was silent and apologized. "Sorry.... I was just exploring a cave I found and I left my phone to the side, that is all, I just... I just didn't hear it ring. I coming back now. Sorry"

Lucy picked up her belongings and started to walk towards the sea entrance. Then she suddenly stopped and looked at her arms and legs. She was bone dry. Her clothes were dry, so was her hair. She knew something wasn't right. She put her hand in the sea to feel the temperature. Her hand started glowing and he legs felt wobbly. She fell backwards onto the stone. Lucy looked down at her legs. The problem was her legs weren't there anymore. Just a tail. A fish tail.

She was a mermaid...
