The Death of Fiona Becker

"Ms Yachi!" Natsu was sprinting towards me as I looked over my vast collection of files.

"Yes?" I glanced up at her, surprised at the glint in her eyes.

"You know that woman? The one who went to court over that little boy?" She was bouncing around the table now obviously she had news of someone.

"Fiona? Or Donna," I was out of my seat and ran to the pile of female offenders I hadn't looked over yet. Pulling out the file on Fiona I let Natsu look it over, her fingers smudged the paper from where she had been playing in the dirt.

"Fiona! Guess what I found out at Momo's house? She's here!"

"Really? Kid you are amazing!" I had the urge to pick her up and hug her, but I refrained. I was scared it might've triggered a memory of hers to surface, that wouldn't be safe.

"I know! Now apparently according to the news she's staying at a hotel but Momo's parents turned off the tv before I could hear where. Should we use Plan 8?" Damn this kid was smart. I hope she'll forgive me after I tell her, it'll be amazingly horrid to ruin the only friendship i have.

"A genius plan kid, we'll use it but this time in the alley." Natsu jumped up to run back outside, with all her moving around we'll need do leave this warehouse soon. Enough thought of her well being its your own damn fault, first you need to find the hotel. I grabbed my map of the city and began crossing off any unlikely sites.

*That night around Midnight*

Natsu was curled into a ball under her blankets on the hayloft we used as a bed. I stayed up longer burning a candle as I wrote new information into a file on a suspected child abuser. Natsu shifted slowly, muttering under her breath. As I put away the file and blew out the candle a clang sounded in the warehouse, coming from the door. I jumped up ready to protect Natsu if there need be. I realized later that was an idiotic move.

"I dont think anyone's here bro, just take a swig and chill." A nasally voice came through the window followed by a laugh. Dumb teens and their incessant need to fight society and its rules.

"What if a cop comes by?" A deeper voice said in alarm.

"It'll be fine." Said Nasally. I didn't think much of this conversation and sat back down, Natsu was waking up from the commotion and I cursed under my breathe.

"Ms. Yachi?"

"Go back to bed kid its okay." I laid down on the ground giving Natsu the more comfortable spot. As I drifted off to sleep I heard the teens leave, banging around as they did.

'Shes in here!' A distant voice, one i had hoped to never hear again, it brought the men, it brought the pain. 'Hello! You are quite pretty' a grimy hand touched my cheek, my cheek streaked with tears, it hurt but i slapped her hand away. 'Papa help me! Mama!' I screamed but nothing came out, my voice was gone and my throat was on fire, 'Tsk tsk, why would you want to run away? I wont hurt you, i'll love you very much Yachi' No. No please don't sell me, please don't take me. I wanted to run, I wanted to push her with my 5 year old hands and my tiny strength, I wanted out.

'Oh no Yachi don't hurt the nice woman!' A mans voice this time, another person I would find later. I glared as hard as I could and bit her hand,I head butted her as hard as I could with a pounding headache. She fell back clutching her nose and I ran, I ran as fast as a five year old possibly could, storing faces as passed, faces I would never forget I could never forget.

I was drenched in sweat as I woke up, the panic subsiding I reached up and pulled my hair back. It hurt my arm, I had a habit of bruising myself in my sleep and could see a small one forming on my forearm. Damn it.

Today would be the last day, Fiona would be gone and another memory could be erased, another day in my head where another person had thought I was pretty and worth it, could be put aside.

"Fiona Becker, thank you for your life." I whispered in the chilly morning air.
