"Today's the big day, Draco," Lucius Malfoy hissed. "You better be in Slytherin-"
"Not Gryffindor," Draco spat, disgusted at the utter of the house name. "Not Ravenclaw, not Hufflepuff."
"Very good. And try to befriend that Potter, he may serve useful someday," Lucius slurred, hard malice in his voice. Narcissa then strutted in.
"Are we ready to go? Are you ready, Draco?" Narcissa was always softer to Draco than Lucius.
"Yes, mother."
"Good. Are we ready to apparate?"
"I suppose so," Lucius gripped his son and wife and apparated both of them to King's Cross.
As they appeared there, Draco spotted the Boy Who Lived talking to a chubby, red headed woman with multiple children. Hand-me-downs and red hair; must be the Weasley's, Draco sneered in his mind.
"Draco! Draco!" A familiar voice called.
"Hey, Pansy," Draco replied without shifting his glance.
"How'd you know it was me?" Pansy asked.
"We've been friends for a long time, I know your voice by now." How sweet, Pansy thought.
"Well, are you hoping to get into Slytherin?" Pansy asked, tossing the original topic aside.
"Definitely," Draco proudly announced. Pansy giggled.
"The train is here, Pansy, Draco," Pansy's mother said. She was right! Hogwarts Express was here. They climbed aboard and headed to a compartment filled with other family friends.
"Hey, Zabini."
"Malfoy," Blaise responded. "Been long."
"Yeah, haven't seen you since you we were 9!"
"Glad to see you again."
"Same to you," Draco replied. He went and took a seat next to Theodore Nott, Pansy sitting right beside him.
"Got any Hogwarts Hints, Nott?" Draco asked him.
"Definitely," Nott said. "Snape takes favor in Slytherin's, so during Potions, make sure to tease the other house as much as you can. You'll get lucky if Gryffindor's with you in Potions."
"I sincerely hope they are," Draco snickered.
"During mealtimes, the Gryffindor's aren't seated near us, so it's nice not having to look at their cheery, goody-two shoes faces."
"Oh, what a relief," Draco sighed. The rest of the ride was spent eating candy and talking about Hogwarts.
Arrived at Hogsmeade Station, Draco and the other first years had to go to Hagrid.
"I can't believe Dumbledore trusts a giant with us first years," Draco whined.
"He's a half-giant," a voice piped up. They all turned around. It was Harry Potter who had corrected him.
"Oh, look, there's a rare sighting of a Potter and his pet Weasel!" Draco announced. This sent all of his friends into hysterics. Ron's ears turned bright red.
"Shut up! His name is Ron!" Harry defended.
"What's he matter to you, Potter?"
"He's my friend."
"You only have one friend? Potter has social problems!" This sent them laughing again. "Well, we don't have enough time to deal with you low-life's. Let's go, shall we? We shall!" Draco shouted as he led them to Hagrid.
The boat ride to Hogwarts was beautiful, but Draco hardly noticed because he was too busy quietly complaining about how Dumbledore could trust a half-giant with first years. When they arrived at the school, they were told to head to the Great Hall for the Sorting. This got Draco excited.
As they walked, Pansy kept rambling on about how being in Slytherin would be amazing and that she couldn't wait to have the Sorting Hat put on her head. Draco, of course, pretended to listen. He was thinking about how his parents would react if he didn't get into Slytherin. That's rubbish, of course I'll get into Slytherin! Draco concluded his thoughts as they stepped into the Great Hall.
"We're here!" Pansy squealed as they walked towards the Sorting Hat. The Sorting Hat popped into his song as the last first year was seated. Draco thought the song was stupid. The Sorting Hat finally got to the sorting part, and Draco got sweatier and sweatier by the moment. It was finally his turn.
"Malfoy, Draco!" The Sorting Hat called. Be calm, I know I'll get Slytherin, Draco thought. He shook it all of and walked to the chair everyone else before him sat on. The Sorting Hat was being placed on his head as he thought to himself, It's the big moment. The Sorting Hat took few seconds before announcing his house.
"Gryffindor!"
