I sat in silence in my darkened room. The metal bed with a mattress had become my home, and would continue to be so for a extended period of time. My door opened and I pushed my back up against the corner of my wall.
"Hey, Dan!" Grinned Jane, my caretaker, I had grown somewhat used to her presence. I raised my hand in a soft hello.
"Due to circumstances, you'll be obtaining a room mate." Fear struck through me. "His name is Phil, he's a little older than you but, it'll be okay. He'll be here any time," She smiled softly at me again, clearly seeing the fear in my eyes, she got up and left, locking the door behind her like normal.

The large building was rather beautiful. It had barely any windows, only closer to the top with bars on the windows. Probably to stop jumpers. My mother shoved my, "Get out and go. Hurry up, I don't got all day," She growled, her bright red lipstick contrasted with her skin, with her large, unnecessary glasses, she checked her phone and was texting with the clicking of her exaggerated nails. I grumbled and grabbed my bag and walked into the hospital. I saw greeted by a pretty girl with a name tag saying Jane. I smiled gently at her.
"You must be Philip! You'll be rooming with Dan, but first I have to check your bags and tell you the rules."
I nodded. She quickly inspected my bags, pockets, and took my belt. She informed me of the rules, which, I ignored. Then she told me, "Your roommate is a little.. shy. Don't be offended if he doesn't speak, he doesn't talk, he's mute. He's been that way for a few months, since he came in. At first he used pleases and thank you- never mind, I shouldn't be speaking of another patient. Follow me, your room is at the top floor. Not many people are up there.. just you and Dan." I nodded and took my bags with me as we trudged up the stairs.
When we arrived at the door, she left me and I opened the door, closing it behind me, she locked the door.
The boy looked similar to me, but he had chocolate eyes and hair, he wore black jeans and a black sweater. His ears has gages in them and a beanie. There was a bed a few feet from his and a dresser next to another dresser. "Hi, I'm Phil."
Dan whimpered quietly, pushing himself on the wall more, staring at me in fear. "I'm going to go by the dressers, okay? I'm going to unpack. Which dresser is yours?"
Dan didn't move, but nodded, and I took it as a sign that I could go over and unpack. The one with the stuff on it was clearly his, so I unpacked my clothing neatly and folded them. I stood and walked straight to my bed. Silence filled the room for at least five minutes before there was a quiet scratching. I looked over at Dan to see him drawing. Often, he glanced at me, probably fearfully. Soon, Jane came in and handed us both trays. On the tray was juice, chicken nuggets, ketchup packets and some Mac 'n' cheese. She gave us a little cardboard spoon type deal.
"Please, be sure to eat, Philip." Jane said before walking off.
The look of the food made me want to vomit. I set the plate on the floor and laid down on my back.
"S-so, t-thats why y-you ended u-up he-here." Dan stammered. My head shot his way. I thought he was mute?
I shrugged.
"Eat a little." Dan muttered. "I don't want a dead cellmate from starving himself."
"You speak rather fluently for a mute."
"I'm not mute. I just don't talk to that bitch," Dan scoffed. "Like my little stuttering bit? That's how I talked when I first arrived. Fucking idiots believe anything, really."
I stood and walked towards him a bit, but he slammed himself up on the wall. "Get the fuck away from me." He growled, but fear was evident in his eyes.
I raised my hand in defense and sat on my bed. "So why are you stuck here?"
"Anxiety. Depression. PTSD. You? They usually don't lock people up here for anorexia."
"No, just anorexia." I lied.
"You're a bad liar. I can tell you be attempted, you've got a rope mark on your neck, twat."
My hand reached around my neck. The skin was still raw from the rope.
"Eat three nuggets and half the mac n cheese and all the juice." Dan said. "They'll feed you through a tube and it's not pleasant. They're rude and painful about it."
I wondered how he knee, but I sighed and did as he was told and wanted to throw up.
"Goodnight, Phil." Dan tossed and turned for a moment and the lights went out. I did the same.
