CHAPTER TWO: NEW BEGININGS
In the past couple of hours, unimaginable things had happened to me. I'd witnessed a girl hack a zombie in half, I'd also almost become one, I'd had a conversation with the weirdest, yet most smart fifteen year old I'd ever seen, I'd attempted murder (I think). And now, I was in a rebellion. I needed life to give me a break to absorb everything first.
I was in the ward all alone with the other guy: Mouse, I think. His brown hair was cut into a bang on his right side. And he had little blonde highlights. He had darkish brown eyes, and a nicely tonned skin. He was a bit taller than me, and had a little skinny tail poking out of his backside.
'Holy crap!' I yelled. Humans weren't supposed to have tails.
'Uhhh... What?' He asked.
I pointed at his tail. Now a million things were going through my mind.
He looked at the direction of my hand and giggled.
'Oh, it's okay. He doesn't bite.'
'Huh?'. Just then, a little head popped up from behind his shoulder. A furry little thing with the biggest eyes I'd seen for something that size. 'A monkey?'
Not just any monkey though. This wasn't your regular mammal. This one was as tall as half my arm, and wore a little sleeveless jacket and a red little fez. Kind of something you might see in an Aladdin movie.
'Yeah.' Mouse smiled. 'He's very friendly. Say hi, Appu.' The monkey squeeled.
Really? A monkey with a jacket and a fez named "Appu"? I'm guessing mouse was a fan of Saudi Arabian stories.
He extended his hand.
'My names Henry, but people call me Mouse.'
'Any reason why?' I asked.
'No, none. I don't even know why.'
'I'm Cody. Nice to meet you.'
While our hands were joined in the shake, Appu dashed across the bridge and perched on my head, bent over and licked my forehead. His way of saying hi, maybe. And with the way he smacked his lips and tongue, I probably didn't taste as good as he thought too. This forced me to laugh.
I noticed shadows walk pass the door. I nodded at Mouse.
'Whats on the other side?'
With his hands crossed, he turned over and back. 'Let's see... Real people.'
'Can I go see? I don't like hospital environments much.'
'Depends Cody. Can you stand?'
I grabbed the bed for support, and pushed myself off. I stood almost with ease. I could feel my body now. I noticed I'd gotten a change of outfits. Now I wore a dark green long-sleeved shirts and a rather nice black pair of pants.
I walked up to the mirror there and stared at my reflection. Gently touching and stroking the bandage, I could only hope that the optical operation would be successful.
'You can take it off anytime you want, y'know.' Mouse said. 'Although Zee likes to be on the positively safe side.'
'I can?'
'Sure. I mean... Thirteen hours is enough time for your tissues and cells to regenerate. Especially when Zee uses the growth enhancer.'
'Thirteen hours?'
'Yep. In a timespan of which you attacked Zee... Thrice. I had to tranquilize you all three times.'
'Uh... No wonder my butt hurts.' I rubbed my behind. My hand crept up to the bandages. I was quite anxious to see my eye now. I peeled it off until it was all gone now, and opened my eye.
