Jack's POV

He is everything I wish I could be. I mean, look him: he has loads of friends and isn't usually single. Usually he has a girlfriend but he broke up with a girl yesterday over a text. But I can't speak to him. Obviously. I'm just that weird kid, Jack, who sits in a corner and doesn't have any friends. My problem is, I care too much what people think. Now I just sit in a corner, watching Mark, wishing I could be like him. Mark is really hot but obviously he's straight. Anyway, why would he go out with me? Me, Jack... As Mark gets up to go somewhere, I watch as he moves away. I think he looked at me but I'm probably just seeing things. He doesn't ever notice me since I sit so close to the trees. I hope he never notices me. He would see how much of an idiot I was and make fun of me. That would crush my heart. So here I sit...

Mark's POV

Damn, he's cute. He's here everyday. I wish he would say something but also I don't. I mean, everyone would totally be able to tell I like him. Then they would know I'm bi. And then if I actually got close to someone my secret would be obvious. It would crush him. Anyway, the bell is probably about to go and some people are leaving. I can't be late to my next class. Teachers seem to want to find something wrong with me but they'll never figure it out. But detention can't be great anyway. I've never been and I've got football practise today. Coach would be annoyed if I wasn't there.

Jack's POV

I swear he looked at me. Anyway, he's gone so I should probably go to my next class. I have the exact same schedule as him but he doesn't notice. I'm stupid anyway, at least that's what everyone says to me. Picking up my bag, I leave for my next class. English is the worst. I can't really read properly but I can't tell anyone. Then there would be a big fuss out if it. I tend to prefer hiding in the shadows. Yeah, that's me. Dust and shadows. I chuckle quietly to myself as I take my seat in class. Mark is across the room from me and always gets perfect marks on all his tests. The teachers don't seem to like him though. "Settle down class, settle down," the teacher says, signalling the start of class. He's a pretty relaxed teacher as they go, so he told everyone to just call him Tyler. I can't remember his second name anyway so that's great for me. Class seems to go on forever, but I'm lost in thought. Suddenly, some words catch my attention. "Okay everyone, hand in your homework." Homework?! I'm sure I don't remember any homework. Chairs scrape against the floor as everyone gets up and gives him some pieces of paper. "Jack?" I shake my head. "Very disappointing...another detention tonight then." I seem to get detention every night now. Same old, same old. It doesn't seem that bad anymore. They think I don't pay attention enough and I probably don't, but being able to read would help me a lot.

As the bell rings, I pack up my stuff and grab my bag, always out the door first. "Where do you think you're going, stupid?" A familiar drawling voice cause me to turn around, sighing.

Mark's POV

As I walk out of class I see that cute boy again. But he is quickly moved out of my view as I realise Draco is pushing him around the corner. I can only assume Draco is up to no good so I round the corner cautiously. "P-p-please...no...I'm sorry, please don't..." The boy is pushed up against the wall, begging, bloody. I watch as Draco punches him again, connecting with his face. More blood pours out of the boy's face. Draco brings his fist back, ready to punch him again. "STOP!" He looks around, startled at who had spoken. When he sees me, he sneers. "Mark? Sticking up for this idiot? Why do you care? He's worthless, he's nothing!" The boy slowly looks at me from the corner of his eyes and then looks away quickly. "All people are worth something! You can't just go beating them up! Leave!" Draco sniggers again, walking away slowly.

Jack's POV

Mark looks me up and down, taking in my bruises. He's so perfect. He's flawless in every way possible. His red, perfectly-styled hair sticks up, making him look even cuter. His eyes are like chocolate-brown pools and for a moment I lose myself in them, startled as he looks me in the eye. I brace myself, ready for his words, for him to laugh at me, to call his friends. All he says is: "Are you okay?" I remain silent. "I mean, like, are you badly hurt? Not going to speak, huh?" I look away, thinking of his face. "It's okay, I'm not here to hurt you!" I flinch as he raise his voice. It must have been visible because he speaks again. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. What's your name anyway?" "Wait..." I stare at the wall, wishing I could be anywhere but here.

"Jack?" Suddenly, I swing around, confused. "H-how di-did you kn-know?" I stutter, tripping over my words. Realising what I'd done, I look away, shy again. Mark chuckles at my reaction and explains. "It said on your book. It was poking out of your bag." His gaze seems to burn holes into my back as I look away, unsure what to do. So, I turn to face him. His eyes dance, hypnotising me. "Hello? What happened?" "U-uh-why did you help me?" His eyes seem to become sad suddenly and I'm scared of what I must have done.

Wooo! Cliffhanger! Ok, not much of a cliffhanger but still! I think this is a nice sized chapter and I live in England so it's about 11 and I'm here, writing fanfic! Hahahaha usually I do other things like slee- wait, I don't do that! I read fanfic usually! If you liked this, please vote to let me know and also even if it's a tiny it's good then I would still like to hear your personal opinion! Even if it's bad... I'm pretty pleased with it myself and it came out how I hoped! Feel free to say bad stuff too but don't make it personal! I am currently not cutting myself which is an improvement and I intend for it to stay that way.

Okay bye! Hugs for everyone!
