Hey guys! Wow. It's been a long time since I posted anything on this! Not much has happened to me that requires and update, so I'll get right to the story! I hope y'all like it! :) -K
Here we are. Me, my best friend, a piano, and a class full of waiting students. Today was the first day that I was brave enough to perform in front of my classmates, or anybody for that matter. The "So You Think You Can Sing" competition has been around our school for a long time, though I never really felt like participating. Anxiety has kept me from ever sharing my voice with anyone. And now, here I sit.
I'd decided to sing the song that meant the most to me, as it would be easiest to share from the heart. A song called "Addict With A Pen". It was written by Tyler Joseph, and is performed by Twenty One Pilots. This song speaks to me in ways no one else can. As I get the ok from the teacher to begin, I hesitantly start pressing the piano keys one by one.
Hello
We haven't talked in quite some time.
I know
I haven't been the best of sons.I sing, praying to be accepted by everyone. No one talks, as they are all interested in listening to the quiet girl sing from the heart. My hands keep moving and I begin to feel my self confidence growing, though I continue to look down at the piano to avoid the other students.
I try desperately to run through the sand as I
I hold the water in the palm of my hand.
'Cause it's all that I have and all that I need
And the waves of the water mean nothing to me.I continue, and I finally decide to look up from the black and white pieces that I'm hitting. I notice a girl. A girl I haven't talked to, or ever seen smile. She was smiling. It meant so much to me that she was. I looked at her, and she nodded, mouthing the words as I sang.
By the time I push the last key, I feel extremely happy. Everyone begins clapping. My friends are all grinning at me, and some are congratulating me. I guess I really didn't have anything to be scared of.
As I stand up from the piano and walk to my seat, the girl comes up to me. And for the first time ever, she starts a conversation. I can see the happiness in her eyes, as if someone had finally understood her. She had a bubbly, slightly high-pitched voice as she talked about my performance. I couldn't help but blush at some of the things she said. And then, she hugged me. I vowed that from today on, I will protect her with my life.
Her name is Hope.
