Chapter Four
Obedient Girl
“Are you sure about this?" I asked in a worried tone.
“Yes" he said. I closed my eyes and thought about the happy things. My legs start to tremble as I try to gasp for air. But it’s too all late. I’m already under. I wobble my arms and legs so I can try to pop up. But my weight had already helped to push me up like a balloon. My head is back up again.
“I told you there was nothing to worry about." he said.
“It was still scary" I told him. He is my neighbor Travis. He’s known me all my life. I would always go over to the lake to help him with swim practice. But those times were ending. The end of the summer was in four days and we were going to be going to different high schools. Travis was going to Jefferson high and I was going to Sparrow. I had no idea that high school could end up being such a crazy envoironment. I’m going to be graduating soon. I am supposed to write about a a crazy time that I’ve had at this high school and my crazy time was the beginning of freshman year.
After I got out of the lake with Travis he said something to me that I never forgot. I had just put a dry towel around my body trying to warm up. He turned me around and said the most serious thing he could possibly say
“Larissa" He said. “This is it. The most important times of our lives are beginning. We are going to be facing things that we have never faced before. Our lives are beginning." I nodded my head and smiled thinking that he was exaggerating at the time.
“Well I'll see you around." I told him.
“Okay bye" he said. I walked out and left.
On the first day of school I wore the best outfit ever. I decided not to eat anything. I walked out before my parents even woke up. I approached Sparrow. I looked up and saw a new world. I felt a bump against my back.
“Oh I’m so sorry" A voice said.
I turned around and saw a pretty black girl with long hair.
“You decided to come early too right?" I asked.
“Yeah." she answered. “Had to call dibs on all of the good lockers."
“I’m Larissa" I said to her.
“Delayna." she said. "I’m a freshman."
“Me too!" I told her.
“Cool!" Delayna said to me. We started a conversation while we waited for the rest of the students to come inside. My classes were easy and I didn't have a problem getting to know the other students students. At lunch time I sat next to Delayna. We became friends at lunch time when we realized all of the stuff that we had in common.
When I got home I put my bags on the couch and went into the fridge to grab a snack like I normally do.
“How was your first day of high school!" My little brother Cory asked.
“Um it was nice." I answered back.
“Moms calling you to go help her out with the garden." Cory said. I walked through the kitchen outside. I see my mom wearing overalls and a farmer’s hat.
“Ma!" I yell. “What are you doing." I start to laugh looking at her wardrobe.
“Oh I’m just trying to weed this garden." she said.”So how was school?"
“School was cool." I answered back. My mother and I have a special bond with each other. Anytime I needed her she would always be there.
“Well I called you here for you to help me pick out the left over dry grass here" she said to me.
