"You have to eat, Dee." Mrs. June said sighing while she sat across from me in her counseling room. Usually I feel safe in this room, but today felt off... Today felt off in general. I got up and my parents stared, not saying a word. When I walked through the halls, everyone stared. Even people talking would tilt there heads and stare. It was like I was wearing a clown outfit to school... But these stares weren't giggly or confused, they were like everyone just wanted to look at me, like pins and needles were flying at me from every direction and I was the pin cushion.
I stood there in a dead stare at my apple I just bit, thinking about today... I scanned the bite marks. I could hear my counselors faint talking but my whole focus was on this apple now. It was red, had a few green spots on it, but other than that it was perfect.
I spit out the bite I just took in a gag. I heard my counselor sigh and say "What am I going to do with you?... Common, you have to go to class now." I looked up at Mrs. June... I realized she was the only person that hasn't been staring at me. "Mrs. June..." I said in a low, anxious voice. Mrs. June almost jumped when she heard my voice. "Oh?!" She said looking at me a little shocked. She cleared her throat and said "I mean... Yes Dee?" I looked in her eyes, I noticed another thing, her eyes were normal. "Do... Do I look weird today?" I said sitting a little more scrunched up in my seat out of fear. "No honey, you look normal as usual, why? Didn't wear make-up today?" She laughed a bit, she knows I don't wear makeup. "It's nothing." I said looking back down at my apple. "Well, just take that apple to class, I can't have you staying here all day can I?" She lead me out the door. Before she closed the door I noticed something. I noticed a ton of open boxes in the closet behind Mrs. Junes desk. She left the door open, stupidly, and I could see that they were for some sort of... Camera?... All I saw on the box was a logo with some sort of camera on it.
I got to my classroom, once again everyone stared... I sat down at my desk and everyone seemed to snap their necks to stare at the board in sync. The teacher walked up to my desk, his walking weird and shakey. "D-do you have a p-pass Miss. Helen?" His words shakey as well. "No." I say straight forward. Usually Mrs. June gives me a pass but today she didn't. I shrug it off and look at the board.
After about 45 minutes of English the bell rings. The next class I have is Gym... Great, popular people fighting to win first in a pointless grade... Im walking to class when everyone stops. Everyone seems to just freeze, mid walk, mid sentence and mid blink. Then, everyone's heads turn to me again and their eyes look directly in mine. I stop and look around. Maybe everyone is pulling a prank on me... Yeah, a prank, that's it. "Haha very funny guys... Jokes over." But no one is moving. I take a step forward, my breath hitched, and their heads turn, following my every move.
I begin walking up to Sarah, my friend. She stares at me, I stare back. I poke her where she's most sensitive but she doesn't budge. "What the hell?" I mutter while looking at everyone else.
Something is in their eyes... I look in Sarah's eyes and I see some kind of red glow, it's small but I see it. I look in other people's eyes and they have the same glow... When I look closer I begin to realize their eyes have cameras inside of them... I also notice a, faint, red mark on everyones neck. I look closer and it says numbers. "92..." I say reading Sarah's number.
