Jade gritted her teeth as she stared at the now closed door of her new company's meeting room. The CEO of the Don Bosco MP has just left the room and it wasn't in great satisfaction that the meeting ended. As a starting company with a lot of potential, she had hoped to secure ties with the business magnate but was greatly disappointed when the meeting did not revolve in the short but impressive track record of her company but in the magnate's concern about her leadership capabilities. She accepted it all amidst gritted teeth and promised to show the magnate, just how capable she is. They shook hands and the CEO left the room while Jade just sat back on her chair.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh"
Jade let out the scream she didn't know she was holding. After the undeniable success of her new company, she still encounters such insulting problems. She clenched both her fists and sighed.
In order to fight the urge to throw something at the door, Jade closed her eyes and massaged her temples. Now that the meeting ended in such a note, she has to notify her parents. She really can't leave the country after what had happened.
Her mom answered after the first ring.
"Jade, honey, your Dad and I are out. Do you need anything for tonight's flight?"
Jade closed her eyes for a moment before letting out a sigh. They have already postponed it a month ago so she doesn't have the heart to do it again to them. They deserve this vacation.
"The meeting did not turn out as I expected, Mom, so I can't come tonight. But don't worry! I'll catch the earliest flight, on Sunday, okay?"
There was a short pause on the other end of the line. Her parents were talking.
"We can just postpone the flight honey..."
She knew it.
"No, Mom. You and Dad would do no such thing. I would come on a later flight, okay? You should enjoy yourselves while I'm gone. I'll be there, two days after, okay?"
"But Jade, if..."
She heard the faint but stern voice of her father in the background. His old man was the one who taught her how to stand on her two feet and be the head of a company but her mom was also an amazing businesswoman. She just tends to worry too much when it concerns Jade.
She shook her head in amusement.
"No ifs and no buts, Mom. I'm old enough to travel by myself. I'll get there. Don't worry."
Jade could feel her mom's proud smile on the other end.
"Alright. We love you, honey. See you!"
"I love you both! I'll be there before you know it."
The executive could not help but smile. This just made her as determined as ever. She would make her parents proud.
She glanced at the stack of papers on her desk.
Now, she's got work to do.
Jade picked up one of the documents on her work table and started reading it.
Her world was at a standstill. Everything else muted aside from the voice of the reporter as she stared at the flashing words on the screen.
30 people confirmed dead and 30 more missing as flight number AA576 heading to New Zealand crashed...
She was finishing up some documents to be reviewed when Sally called her delivering the devastating news. At first she could not believe her ears but now that she has done everything to confirm the news, she could no longer deny the fact.
