Patrick POV"This dungeon is too easy. There hasn't been any Mages yet, feral or infected... What was Aricin so worried about?..." Step after step, I listen to my footprints echo throughout the cave. This is the first time I've done a dungeon alone. My heart starts to beat heavier in my chest, the electric volts surging throughout my bloodstream. "AHHHH!" I scream, thrusting my glove-covered fist to the ground. I watch the streams of electricity rush from my arm to the ground. The pain, excruciating, but worth it...
That's when I hear... her... but it can't be...
"Get off me!"
My eyes widen, and all my muscles go tense. "Eevee!!"
I run as fast as I can - left then right, following the echo to its origin. One last corner and the deranged laughter seems as familiar as the suns warm rays...
I turn the corner, "Miles..." and my heart sinks as I recognise that the powers of his own Mage now corrupts my once best friend. Miles black bloodshot eyes stare demonically into mine as he turns to face me. What have you become...
"Oh, this is perfect. It's like a fairy tale, really! The prince of lighting coming to save the princess of adaptability." His crazed laughter echoes throughout the cave, not as uplifting as it once was, "Let me show you a trick my master taught me. It has a high fatality rate meaning many others have died through this treatment." He elongates a suggestively deep breath along the thin of Eevee's cold neck, and although every bone in my body wants to rip his heart out, I can't, not yet. His hand then turns a deep purple as drops of liquid start to drip from his overloading palm, "Watch this." Miles forces the toxin down his own throat; before leaning his mouth towards Eevee's throat... Now. I rush up to the Dark Mage, but my bolt sword is stopped mid-air, centimetres from his chest cavity. A shadow of dark flames forces my body to stiffen, "Just watch, you overgrown rat." The dark Mage turns back to Eevee, forcing his acid drowned canines into her throat. Thank Arceus I couldn't hear her scream herself unconscious. The devils' pet frantically infects her veins. I struggle against the flame prison, trying everything I can to break free, but... I can't. Defeated, I watch Miles release his jaw, staring maliciously at her pierced skin while his fanged canines ooze a mix of blood and poison. "Oh, but that's not enough to make her change."
My blood boils as the pit in my stomach subconsciously tries to mimic the pain of Eevee's innocent body. My throat tenses as a wave of psychic power forces rocks and boulders around us to rupture. Unfortunately, psychic doesn't effect dark. The look of Eevee's lifeless body being manipulated against her consent fuels my dismay. I'm sorry, Eevee... I'm not strong enough...
It's as if everything around me turns to darkness. It's only me in the floating world of a dark abyss. I'm not strong enough, Aricin... he was right... I can't even save her...
Help, you still can.
No, I can't... I can't do anything...
Stand for, Tricky won't.
What?
To Tricky, Xannon riddled. You'd come to save us, Tricky deciphered that.
But what can I do? I'm imprisoned by the flames of hell.
So neither should Volt Mage, Adaptation Mage hasn't given up.
You don't understand!
Understand, Volt Mage does not. Believes in you, Tricky still does. Holding on for you, Adaptation Mage still is. When things look bad, Volt mage gives up. When things look bad, Adaptation Mage adjusts. VOLT MAGE GIVING UP, TRICKY WON'T STAND FOR!
The little voice snaps a sense of pride back into my veins. Psychic against Poison is super effective. Eevee hasn't given up, so. "Neither will I!" The Volts that ride my veins now light up my skin; the sparks flicker - zapping the blackened flames. Thunder... grey clouds form, roaring inside the cave. I watch as Miles releases Eevee from his toxic osculation. "How dare you..." I challenge as my electric serges break the prison.
Miles' eyes widen, and his crazed expression returns. "Yeah... and what are you going do about it?" He crosses his arms then hastily opens his palms to summon claws drenched in a dark aura.
"I'm going to kill you!!"
I rush up to the devil's dog, the thunder encapsulating his body as my sword strikes his claws. It's so satisfying, watching his body being burnt to a crisp, but although the powers of a thousand storms electrify his entity, his claws still somehow rival my sword. The sparks fade, and Miles continuously strikes for a deadly blow.

One last slash and his shadow like claws vanish. Then, like a peasant to his king, he kneels in defeat before me.
"Go, do it. My blood will be on your hands, and it'll kill you emotionally."
Miles flamed eyes turn to rubies, his untamed demeanour domesticated. "Stop it!" I growl as his new appearance takes me back to my childhood... our childhood. "AHHHHH!" I slash my sword, straight for his neck...
"I knew you couldn't do it." I stop my sword, my arms unable to push any deeper into his skin. "Because deep down, you. Are. Weak!"
I drop my sword and grab his skull necklace, pulling him towards me. "It's Because I'm. Not. You..." I send one final jolt of lightning straight through his nervous system. I hold him tight, not letting any part of him touch the ground.

His uncontrolled twitching subsides as his tensed muscles relax...
I take a deep breath, and my lengthened hair retracts back to its normal length, boots turn to vanes, trousers turn to denim, gloves vanish, and my yellow jumper appears back over my bare chest. The lightning sword doesn't disappear... I don't want it to. I go to each rope and cut free every prisoner. One by one. The second last is a little girl, and she's the only one not unconscious. "Thank you."
The little girl happily nods, and as the rope is cut, she wraps her arms around my neck, "Right, Tricky was. Saved us, the Volt mage did."
I laugh at her strange childish speech pattern then turn to the final figure. Her small hands tensed while she still fights against the poison.
"Tricky doesn't think it's contagious, The Poison in the Adaptation Mage."
I cut her free and hold her close to my body, her cold skin being warmed by my own. "You'll be okay." I feel tears well in my eyes as I feel her heartbeat slowing. "Don't you dare leave me!" I hold her tighter, hoping she'll feel my embrace. "Don't think I'm stupid. You can't go. I haven't fulfilled my promise to you!"
"Volt mage..."
"What!" I snap at the small voice. She retracts as if frightened, but I don't care. I look back to Eevee, and her pink hair starts to drip. I hold my breath, and my vision blurs from the tears.
"Eevee..."
