It was the cold night of December 17 1987 I was in New York I was wondering the streets looking for a small dinner to get a bite to eat. But at that moment I was having no luck. I walked as I finally rounded a corner to find a small diner. I walked inside as I felt the warmth wash over me, it was much better than that bitter wind biting my face. I took a seat in a corner booth as the waitress came up, she asked me what I wanted I ordered a cup of hot chocolate. She asked if I wanted marshmallows I smiled as I said "I'd love that" she smiled as she wrote it down. She asked what I was doing out so late on a night like this, I told her I was out getting a present for my love. She smiled and said that was sweet of me. She said she would be right back with my hot chocolate. I sat and looked at the menu as I looked for something yummy, but not to big and heavy. I smiled as I found something pancakes with mms her favorite. I looked and saw they also had my favorite, country fried steak and eggs. I loved the sound of having it right now. I sat back as I folded the menu closed. I looked around the dinner not a bad place it had a bunch of booths and a couple of tables. There were scattered couples and a few loners like myself throughout the place. I saw one older man who got my attention he seemed to be a rabbi of sorts, and he looked like he was waiting for someone to show up. I was pulled back to my booth as the waitress came back with my hot chocolate the marshmallows floating around the cup. I smiled as I thanked her and saw her name tag "Peggy". I told her thanks and asked if they served breakfast all day she smiled and said "yes sir'. Well than Peggy I'll take the chicken fried steak and eggs please, and can I get a order of pancakes with mms to go please. She smiled and said "easy, that all" I told her yes and she went away. I sat back once more as I let out a sigh I checked my pocket watch it was 10:35. I let out a sigh as I sat back not really looking at anything but then I looked once again at my watch not for the time but for the picture I of me and her. I smiled as I saw her face, the colors of the carnival rides painted over her face. she held the bear I had won for her at the ring tossing game. I let out a laugh as I remembered how she had gotten attacked by seagulls when we got our fry bread. I was jerked back to the present by Peggy putting my plate in front of me. I thanked her as she asked "That her the girl the present is for" I nodded. I said that's her the girl I love with all my heart, there isn't anything I wouldn't do for her. She asked "the pancakes for her?" I nodded and said "It's her favorite". She smiled and said "she sure is a lucky gal.' I ate in silence as I watched the flow of the restaurant. people would leave and then a few would walk in relieved to get out of the cold. it was interesting to see how it was all couples walking in. I reached under my coat and touched the small box with wrapping paper I held it tight as I left out a sigh. I finished my food and walked to the register and payed. Peggy smiled as I gave her a 10 dollar tip she said "you're just to kind, need me to call cab for you" I told her 'no thank you though" she nodded as she handed me my pancakes to go. As headed for the door she said "have a nice night" I thanked her as I walked out. The weather was better now as I walked it wasn't half as windy as it was before we and not nearly as cold. I walked the snowy streets until I came upon the cemetery. I entered and walked to the back. there lay her tombstone I smile as I cleaned the snow off of the stone, the flowers had mini icicles on them. I smiled as I said "how's it going beautiful I brought your favorite, pancakes with mm's" I placed them at the head of the grave as I said"it's a cold night tonight I hope your doing okay" I chuckled as I brought the box out "I got you a gift I'll open it for you." I open it to reveal a small black box which I opened to reveal the ring. I smiled as I said I was going to give it to you right before you got sick I wish I had... I love you forever you know that right? Tears starting to form in my eyes I said "I will forever but it's time I move on, I can't stay here with you I love you, I love you my wife, my eternal, I love you but I have to go now. Goodbye....
