The following morning Helena was  awoken by an unexpected phone call. Joanne could hear her talking but was unable to make out what was being said. Moments later, there was a polite knock on her door then Helena came into her room.

"That was work," she explained apologetically. "I need to go in today. Someone has made a massive cock up with a client. Unfortnately, there's only me who can sort it."

"Not to worry," Joanne said softly, "I can occupy myself today. No problem."

"I feel really bad though. Afterall, I booked the whole week off so that we could do stuff together!"

"Look Helena, I know you did but honestly, I'll be fine."

"If you're sure....."

"I'm sure, now Go or you'll miss the damn train!"

It was several hours later that Joanne had decided on her destination for the day. For some inexplicable reason she found herself back at Cavendish Avenue. Part of her felt foolish. She was a grown woman with children not some starstruck teenager! Deciding to make herself less conspicuous, she stood across the road from the house. Standing on tiptoes, she discovered she could actually see more of the house from this vantage point! There was a very expensive car on the driveway! Did that mean Paul was actually there? Joanne felt her heart start pounding at the thought.

She stood and waited for what, she wasn't sure. Then, a car approached the house. Joanne discretely peered in, hoping it might be him. To her disappointment, it was a woman driving the car. She was slim, pretty with long dark hair. Joanne wondered who she could be? After all, she thought, as far as she was aware, Paul hadn't started dating again after losing his wife a couple of years ago. She watched the woman say something into the gate intercom then the gates swung open and let her in.

In no time at all the gates swung open again. It was the same car as before! Joanne held her breath. The driver was the same woman but there, in the front passenger seat, was the man himself! The driver said something briefly to him. Paul grinned and waved at her then gave her his trademark 'thumbs up' before being driven off. Joanne couldn't move. She was stunned! Not only had she seen her hero but he had given her a greeting as well!!

After regaining her senses, Joanne looked at her watch. It was almost 4pm! She had been there, in the same spot, for 5 hours! She smiled to herself. Joanne knew Helena would think she was mad, but she had, at last, caught a glimpse of her hero! She accepted that today was the only opportunity she had to try to see Paul, as no doubt tomorrow she would be exploring the sights of London with Helena. Sights, she was certain, would NOT include anything to do with Paul McCartney.
