Chapter 2 – New Roommate

Knock! Knock!

I moaned, sliding off my bed to answer the door. I tugged the door open and found myself staring into the bright blue eyes of Jennifer. She fluttered her long eyelashes, looking slightly confused. She took a glance at the number on the front of the door, almost as if double checking she was at the right place. "This is your room?" Jennifer asked.

I licked my lips, "No, I usually spend my nights in completely random rooms. I suppose it has formed into a rather awful habit," I crossed my arms over my chest.

Jennifer tilted her head to the side and gave me a slight smile, "Your humor is simply delightful. Now, thank you for your introduction, but as you may have guessed," she pointed at the number on the door, "I was told this was my room."

I stared at her, waiting for her to break into laughter at her joke. I scoffed, "Is this your attempt at humoring me back? Because darling," I leaned against the doorway and gave a smirk, "I don't find it very funny."

Jennifer smirked, bigger than mine, "Oh, sweetheart, how I really wish I was. Now, where do I put my things?" she asked as she brushed past me with her bag over her shoulder. I shook my head, "Knock yourself out," I muttered before I began down the corridor.

I was going faster and faster with each step, wanting nothing more than to get as far away as I could from my future wife. I spun around a corner, cursing as I tried to sidestep out of the maid's path. My shoulder hit hers, causing myself to spin backwards and hit the wall behind me. My eyes met Lana, who was backed against the wall on the other side of the corridor.

I sighed, "We must find a better way to meet each other," I stepped towards her, "I sincerely apologize," I smoothed out the back of my hair. Lana gave a slight grin, her front teeth biting her lip like she usually did, "What's your rush?" she asked as she pushed her red hair behind her ears.

I cleared my throat, "Well, there seemed that there has been some mistake in the rooming. My father," I let out a short laugh, "Has accidentally placed--"

I stopped as Lana stuck out her hand, holding a piece of parchment out to me. I raised an eyebrow and took the letter from her small fingers. I unfolded the note and read the words on the parchment. It was an agreement stating Jennifer's and my marriage, with fine print at the bottom stating the regulations and the alongside agreement of her and I sharing a room.

"I was told to come see if everything was alright," she whispered. I pushed the paper back into her hands, shaking my head. "Everything is certainly not alright," I snapped, pacing the hall as I ran my fingers through my messy black hair.

She swallowed, "Bring it up with your father, I'm sure he'll understand," Lana began. I shook my head, turning back to face her, "That won't do anything. He'll tell me that it's for the best, and just to give it time. He'll tell me that it'll all work out."

Lana bit her lip as she began playing with the tips of her fingers, "Then I am sorry, Prince Jayden," she mumbled. I sighed, "Lana," I said quietly, reaching out to hold her face between my hands, "We've been through so much, you don't have to call me Prince or Sir or any fancy names. Just Jayden."

She allowed herself a small smile, "I deeply apologize, Jayden," Lana said my name after a moment, like it felt inhuman for her to say it without a title before it. I gave her a grin, "And there mustn't be anymore apologizing."

Lana nodded, "I will work on it, Pr--" she blushed, "Jayden. But I must get back to work," she nodded her head again before she stepped forward and planted a short kiss on my cheek. Her cheeks instantly turned pink, and I watched in awe as she raced down the hall to her next station.

I put a hand to my cheek, sparks soaring through my body at the feel of her touch. I swallowed, launching my fist into the wall beside me. The bang echoed through the corridor, leaving my knuckles scatched and bloody. I clutched my hand, cursing under my breath at my blasted luck. Every fairytale always ended with the Prince marrying the woman he loved, and eventually they would live happily ever after. The Prince was not supposed to be forced to marry an ignorant duchess when his love lied with someone else.

Fairytales; otherwise known as hopeless dreams.

"Oh, there you are."

I rolled my eyes at Jennifer's greeting as I entered the room. "What?" I asked, flopping down into the chair at my desk. She sighed, sliding up so she was sitting on the edge of the bed, "Your father wants us to spend time together before the wedding."

I scoffed, "Yes, well, I want to not be forced into marriage. But sadly enough, not everyone gets what they want," I barked. Jennifer scowled, and suddenly she was right in front of me, leaning on the arm rests of my chair. "Jayden," she said, her breath hitting my skin, "This is my dream. You have no idea how long my father and I have been waiting for this. If you mess it up, I will personally ensure you never have a happy ending," she hissed.

I narrowed my eyes, "I'm not going to have one anyways, so what's the difference?" I retorted. She licked her lips, her tongue touching every inch of her mouth, "Look. I don't want to be apart of this mariage any more than you do, but it's the only way that my father and I get what we want," she leaned closer to my face, "So I guess, Prince Jayden, that you are just going to have to deal with it."

I stared at her, "I don't have to take orders from you. In fact, I don't have to take orders from anyone," I shot back. Jennifer smirked, her face dangerously close to mine, "Really? Because it awfully seems that your father can order you to do whatever he pleases."

"You're only interested in the crown. That's it," I muttered, "And you won't even try to deny it. That isn't what this castle is about, Jennifer."

She smiled, "Maybe so, Jayden. But I am also interested in my child becoming royalty. Guess who's on the other end of that little idea," she ended softly, running her finger down my jawline as a smirk took over her lips. I swallowed, "There is no way you're going to be the mother of my child."

She smirked, "Well who else do you think is going to be? That cute little maid next door?" Jennifer shrugged her shoulders. I clenched my fists, "Do not bring Lana into this."

She let out a laugh, "Lana? That's a cute little name, it matches her stunning features, now doesn't it?"

I gritted my teeth, "What do you want?" I asked, glancing down to the close proximity of our bodies. Jennifer gave another shrug, "A story to share with everyone," she said sweetly. I was about to protest when her lips slammed into mine, causing me to flinch backwards.

However she didn't let go. She had climbed onto my lap, her legs on either side of my body. Her hands were grasping onto the collar of my shirt as her lips slid against mine. She pushed her mouth further into mine, and as sexy as she was, I wanted nothing more than to get her off of me.

"Jayden I was--"

Jennifer stopped, and the two of us turned towards the door to find Lana standing in the doorway, her eyes wide with horror. She swallowed, her green eyes welling with fresh tears. "I-I'm sorry," she whispered before she whisked back out of the room.

"Son of a bitch," I muttered as I pushed Jennifer off of me. I ran to the door, looking down both hallways for the heartbroken maid. Lana was no where in sight. I tangled my hands in my hair, cursing to myself. I turned back to Jennifer, who was sitting in the chair, playing with the ends of her hair. I clenched my fists, "So much for a fairytale," I whispered to myself and hopelessly ran off down the hallway to find the girl I truly loved.
