Chapter Thirteen: The Final Destination

Annabell's POV

It has been three years since I left Derek. Since then, my mother and father died in a 'freak' car accident and I had become the owner of Jameson Marketing Company through inheritance.

I don't like thinking about their funeral. My whole family was there, and Drew even showed up to support me.

The funeral is when Drew admitted to working for Derek. But he also said that he hated Derek from the start, and he quit one year ago when his daughter, Delany was born. He said he wanted Delany to have a normal childhood. I said that I didn't blame him, and I let him keep his job.

I currently live in the same house I had been living in. I didn't need a big house if there was only one person in it. However, I inherited all of my parent's money since I didn't have any siblings. I now have their wealth and many luxuries. I have used at least half of that money on donations to the salvation army and many other charities.

I guess Derek's selfish ways have encouraged me to do good.

I went on lunch break at work to the old Starbucks on the corner of the block by my office. I always go there, and now I have my very own intern getting the employees coffee from there. But this time, I went to get some coffee myself.

This Starbuck's held many memories.

The first time I met Derek.
The first date, that wasn't really date, with Derek.

The list goes on.

I haven't heard from Derek since I left him, and I planned for it to stay that way. But I guess not everyone's intentions follow through.

There I saw, Derek Abernathy, sitting at his shady table in the corner of the Starbucks.

Just keep your head down. Don't let him see you...

I opened the door, which made a loud chiming noise. Several customers sitting at their own tables looked up from whatever they were doing to look at me.

Well, that back fired.

"Annabell!" Derek waved at me. I waved back, looking away immediately. I said to the lady at the register, "I'll have one grande café latte." I handed her my money and stood by the counter, waiting for my drink.

Suddenly, Derek was standing right next to me. "Oh gosh!" I gasped. "You scared me!" I laughed a little. I looked at Derek again and noticed something was off about him. He was abnormally skinny, although you wouldn't notice it because of his muscles. His eyes were blood-shot, like he hadn't slept in a long time. He had a full out beard, like he hadn't bothered to shave it in about three years...

Derek said, "How've you been?"

I replied, "Fine. I inherited the Company after.. you know..."

He looked at me with real confusion. "After what?"

"Order for... Annabell? Yeah, Annabell, your drink is ready." the lady behind the register said.

"Well it was nice seeing you again," I said to Derek.

He watched me receive my drink and followed me out the door. "Annabell, wait! What happened?" He asked me as soon as we were out the door.

"Oh, like you really don't know," I said sarcastically. He was running trying to keep up with me. "Annabell, just wait a second!" I stopped and took a sip of my drink.

"What happened?" he asked with real concern on his face.

I stared back at him. "My parents died in a car accident, Derek. You don't need to play dumb, I know it was you," I said with quiet venom.

"Annabell, I didn't kill your parents." He said to me. "I stopped plotting my revenge after you left me. I never carried on with them. I just want to make amends with you. I still am in love with you, Annabell. Can't you see that? Can't you see anything?"

I looked at him with aggravation. I let out a sigh, took a sip of my drink and walked away. "Say something, Annabell! Please!" I heard him say behind me. I turned to face him. "I'll call you soon, but for now I need to think." I said this and walked back to my office.

I sat down and put my head in my hands.

stopped plotting my revenge after you left me.

still am in love with you Annabell, can't you see that?

I pressed the intercom button on my telephone. "Yes?" said my secretary. "Miss Smith, can you please send up Drew Donavan? I need to speak with him." "Right away, Miss Jameson." she quickly replied.

A couple of minutes later, Drew knocked on my door. I folded my hands and placed them on my desk. "Come in." I said firmly.

He walked in. "Sit down please, Drew. I have to ask you some questions." "Of course," He said.

"Were you still in contact with Derek after I left him?" I asked.

He seemed a little confused that I was asking about Derek. "Yes," he said.

"Now give me and honest answer. Did Derek stop his plot against my father after I left him?" I asked.

There was no hesitation. "Yes." he said, nodding his head. "Okay. That will be all. Thank you Drew," I said. He walked out the door and I put my head in my hands again.

I felt terrible for shutting out Derek. He hadn't had anything to do with my parent's death. All he wanted was for me to be back in his arms.

I called him right away. "Derek?" I said, crying, after he picked up the phone. "Annabell, are you alright?" he said, worriedly. "I'm so sorry," I said, "for everything I've done. I've been so stupid..." I paused. "I miss you Derek."

He sniffled a little saying, "I miss you too, baby."
