Tyrell called me the next day to apologize for not being in his office. He explained that he had stayed up till opening time sorting the trip and his assistant had sent him home to sleep after freaking out over the absolute awesomeness of my plan. Apparently she had thought it was amazing and had called the manager of the branch to excuse Tyrell from work that day.

According to Tyrell, she had nearly split her face open with her grin when she heard my idea. In her words "I wish my daughters cared that much about my partner and I being happy." At least I had other people with faith in my idea in case it went south.

-----------------------------------

Finally, it was the big day. The day I would finally become apart of an actual family. The day my dad would finally get what he deserved. Someone who would love him like I never could. Someone who would fix the broken parts of him that I couldn't see. Someone who could be everything my mum couldn't. He deserved better than what my mum gave him. He deserved someone who would stay no matter what.

I woke up to insistent knocking on my bedroom door. "Wake up Liz!" Kay's voice assaults my ear drums. "You have three minutes before I come in there with cold water!" Ami yells. I guess I'm the last one up. "Why so early guys?!" I yell back. "It's the wedding day you cheesecake!" Ami replies.

My eyes shoot open and I gracefully leap from my bed. As if. I fall out of bed and crawl to the door in a panic. Using the door knob to pull myself up, I stand up and open the door. Ami and Kay are standing there with amused looks on their faces.

"Did you just fall out of bed?" Kay asks. "Hell no!" They both give me a look that tells me they don't believe a word out of my mouth at the moment. "Maybe?" They sigh at my reply and give me the same look. "Ok yeah I maybe kinda sorta kissed the carpet getting outta bed." I scratch the back of my neck and look down at my feet as if they are the most interesting things in the world at the moment.

They are both dead silent so I look up. The looks on their faces are almost comical. They kinda look like chipmunks with extremely red faces. "It's ok you can laugh." The second the words leave my mouth they drop to the floor and laugh till their faces turn purple with no noise leaving their mouths while they clap and flop around on the floor so that they kinda look like seals on crack.

Once they both recover we head downstairs to our parents bedroom to wake them up. We knocked at the door and waited for the all clear before entering their room. We had learnt that lesson the hard way. My poor brain was scared with that memory forever.

As soon as everyone was out of bed dad called his friends and they came to pick him up to head to Uncle Max's house so all the guys could get ready out of our way. We said goodbye at the front door and went back inside to wait for the hair and makeup people to arrive.

Everyone knew I would be the most difficult to get to sit still so I'm told to go first. The second the kinda creepy looking makeup ladies arrive I'm forced into a chair and the mirror in front of me is covered over and I am made to close my eyes while different brushes and sponges paint on a new face for me.

As all of this is going on, I start thinking about the plans. I'm excited to see the look on their faces but I'm also slightly terrified. I did all of this without permission from anyone and I had gone against what Dad had already planned. But it was already done and paid for so there is not much I can do anymore.

I feel someone tap me on the shoulder and hear Kay telling me to open my eyes. I do as she says and look in the mirror which has been uncovered. The person in the reflection can not possibly be me. She's gorgeous.

Her cheekbones are high and are enhanced by the makeup. Her eyelids have a warm brown smokey look paired with a bold red lipstick that matches the shade of her dress exactly. I sit in awe of the beauty before me.

In order to confirm the woman in the mirror is in fact me, I touch my face and just generally make myself look like a complete idiot. The mirror-woman copies every action perfectly. Even when I stick my tongue out, puff up my cheeks and cross my eyes like a five year old.

It's definitely me. I tear up as I turn to face the three women behind me. The women that, in a matter of hours, will be my new family.

"Don't cry dude, you're gonna make me cry." Kay starts fanning her face with her hands to emphasize her point. "You look gorgeous Liz" I hear my step mother to be speak up behind me and I whirl around.

She looks more than gorgeous and I'm lost for words. "Close your mouth or you'll catch flies doll." She laughs and I laugh with her. I look around at the three women around me and I feel amazed with the fact that even though my mother was never around to see my most important days, these three were. They stuck around through the tears and the pain despite not being my family.

"You ladies are my family even if our blood isn't the same. Thank you for being there for me." As I finish my sentence my voice cracks and I start to tear up as do the others.

"Enough of the mushy crap I want to go get married and you're delaying me!" Exclaims Bridget and we all laugh.

"Ok mom," says Ami "let's go get you married." And with that we walk out of the room and towards the closed doors that conceal our joint fate.
