Since my mom never wants to answer questions that come up about my health, every time someone gets curious we pack up and move. Then my mother repeatedly tells me how I'm the reason her life is ruined.
Walking into school I take a moment to thank the universe that I don't have to be in that house for 8 hours, and like on cue the typical mean girls show up and bump into me.
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't see you there," Blondie said as her friends laugh behind her. I simply turn around and head towards the front office. Suddenly I felt a hand on my arm that spun me around.
"Hey bitch, I was talking to you. What's the matter, cat got your tongue?" she snared at me. I could feel the anger coursing through my veins. I clenched my hands into a fist, but stopped myself from doing anything further.
She just smiled, raised her hand, and slapped me across the face. This didn't faze me at all and to be frank I have had much worse. I simply untangled from her clutches and went to the bathroom, spit the blood into the sink, and made my way to the office.
''Hello dear, may I help you?" asked an elderly old woman at the front desk. I shook my head yes and handed her my slip.
" Ah Ms.Evering, I have your schedule right here and I have informed all of your teachers that you are mute," she said as I took my schedule from her gratefully and head out of the office. Twisting and turning through the maze of hallways I finally found my first class, AP History. I went into the classroom and handed my schedule to Mr. James. When I tried to turn and find a seat the teacher told to stay upfront.
"Alright class, settle down," said the teacher, " Today we have a new student joining our class. Her name is Pierce Evering and she is a transfer from Ohio-" The teacher was rudely cut off by a kid in the back of the room.
" Why isn't she introducing herself? Every other new student had to...," the boy questioned. Everyone glances turned curious as they turned to whisper to each other. The teacher glanced at me and I nodded tell him it was okay the tell the class. Heck, it wasn't like I was going to make friends or even stay long enough if I did.
"Alright settle down. Now the reason I am introducing her to the class and not herself is that her circumstances are different. You can see that Pierce here is mute and therefore cannot speak," When the teacher said this every head turned my way and every pair of eyes were on me, but my face had nothing to say as it was as blank as a canvas before an artist started their work. I head to the back of the classroom where the boy shouted his curious question from. I sat down, plugged in my headphones, and laid my head on the desk to catch up on some much-needed sleep.
