Poem 1: Why you?

Why

Why, of all people, are you trying to save me?

I don't need your help; I want it.

at any time I could walk away

say goodbye

you wouldn't care

I, a small grain of sand among a million,

a billion,

will never take your notice.

You don't know me

but I know you.

I don't want your help; I need it

friends in my mind

helping not just me

don't mind me

one among millions; billions

infinitely more people better

worse off than me

help them; they deserve it

take them under your wing

light me on fire to cast me away

I'm my own trouble now

so why do I stay?

to hear your soothing voice

pull me away from the trigger.

Why, you, of all people?

leave me be.
