There were multiple gasps from the audience, but the one that surprised me the most was my mother's. Hadn't she been expecting this? I thought. I stood there paralyzed. Tears started to blur my vision. I could feel my entire body shaking.I ran off stage letting the tears run down my cheeks. All I could think about was putting one foot in front of the other. I ran the only place I knew aunt May would find me. I finally reached the tree house. I slowly climbed up the ladder hoping aunt May wasn't far behind.
I sat there in the dark letting all of my thoughts consume me. How was I supposed to face my mom. Will I still take over the business? Suddenly a slim dark figured climbed in the treehouse. Aunt May silently sat next to me and rested her head on mine.
"Oh Kitty I'm so proud of you."
" How can you be proud, I messed up."
" I'm proud of you trying."
That's something that only Aunt May would say. She has always been the only person who would know what to do at times like this. When my mom was too much to handle I would simply send a spark in the air and in a matter of minutes she appeared in the treehouse. Over time this became our spot.
" I don't think I can go back in there."
"Yes you can, I know you can."
I just cried and cried, finally May cupped my face in her gentle hands and studied my expression. After a minute she pulled me into a long hug.
" I think I know someone who can help" She whispered into my ear.
I stopped, and looked up at May with disbelief.
" How, I'll do anything." I vowed. I looked into my aunt's eyes searching for the answer to my problems.
" If I take you to him you'll have to promise me that you'll come back." She replied with a serious look. We sat there in the dark treehouse looking at one another intently.
"Ok?"she repeated
"Ok."
"Good, now follow me." she swiftly sat up and climbed down the ladder with years of practice clearly showing. She checked to see if there was anyone around. Surely by now they would be looking for me. I bolted after May realizing she had already taken off. She had led me to the stables where four beautiful horses waited in the stalls looking eager for when they could show off their skills. May easily hopped onto one of the steeds. I surveyed my options a brilliantly white horse caught my eye. I slowly hopped on the horse remembering my few lessons I had taken. May left first clearly going at a slower pace so I could keep up.
I couldn't tell how long we'd been on this long dusty trail. The many trees on the side of the road provided some shade, but not enough to keep me from sweating like a pig. May looked like she could do do this all day. Her brilliant blonde hair blew in the wind making her look even more princess like. Her and I had similar features but she pulled it off way better than I did. We both shared similar brown eyes with dirty blonde hair that reached past ours shoulders. I was roasting in the harsh heat of the sun.
" How much farther?" I asked
" Not much." She answered " We should be there by tonight."
The only small relief I got from the harsh sun was the cool breeze that would kiss my face. The sun was setting now and I wondered what my mom was doing. For some reason I missed her. Even though she always nagged at me and explained how useless I was. She was still my mom and will always have a special place in my heart.
Aunt May's horse stopped. For a second I thought something was wrong, I was ready to book it at the slightest sound. Until Aunt May calmly spoke.
