Chapter 2: A Day in the Life of Marine Biology

(Mae's POV)

Ever since I was a little girl did I know what my calling in life was; to become a Marine Biologist and study sea-life. It was my dream to see oceanic animals live in harmony among us and we would take care of them. I work with the orca whales as a nutritionist/dietician; making sure they eat things that they would normally eat in the wild. While working, I feel my favorite sea creature rubbing up against my leg and notice Hailey, the Orca. She speaks to me as if saying 'Feed me, I'm hungry'.

I grab a big pail of fresh fish and immediately begin feeding her, one by one until the entire pail is gone. She squeals contently at me, and swims off to her sleeping quarters. Once I'm finished, I stand up and make my way back to my desk and begin cleaning up for the night. Once everything is put back in its proper place, I head out to my car, making my journey home to my apartment.

Once inside the door, I lock and bolt it quickly; setting my bag on the table near the front door along with my keys into their bowl. I take a nice hot relaxing shower and clean up from the long day at work, and then go lay down in bed in my nighty set (satin PJ top and pants. Once I've finished brushing my teeth and taking care of my business for the night, I get into bed and fall asleep immediately.

*Next Morning*

It's now 9:00 a.m., and the doors open up for the day. I am asked to give a few speeches about our orcas, and I happily oblige. I put my headset microphone around me and attach the ear piece around me ear, fixing the microphone and addressing the crowd.

"Good morning everyone; how are you all today?!" They scream and holler at me happily, meaning they are all having a great day so far. "Good to hear. Today I am going to tell you all a little bit about our main star here at SeaWorld®, Shamu!" Shamu comes out, greeting his guests and splashing those sitting in the front rows of seats. "Shamu, as most of you know, is an orca whale. His species is endangered, as there are many poachers who kill these magnificent creatures. So today, we are collecting donations to save this amazing species of oceanic life. Please help us by not letting these gorgeous animals be killed off."

After finishing my speech, I head back and let the performers do their thing; showing off for the guests. After the show ends, I am asked for by the management staff. I head down to the management office where I am greeted with the President of the company, along with a young man (who looks to be around his mid to late twenties or early thirties). "Mae, so glad to see you've come. We would like to speak with you regarding your speech." I give a slightly startled look, asking; "Did I say anything wrong?" He nods his head, replying "On the contrary, you inspired quite a few of our guests today. One of which whom is standing next to you; his name is Jeremy Ferguson, although he prefers the name Jinxx. He just donated a GENEROUS amount of money to your cause to help the orca whales in the world from going extinct. You should be the one to thank him, as you are the one who advocates the treatment of sea creatures."

I look over and kindly thank this stranger who donated generously to saving the Orca Whale species. He smiles at me, and shakes my hand gently. He then says that it's no problem; that we all need to take care of all the animals, both on land and in the sea. I nod my head in agreement and look back at my boss. He dismisses me and asks me to take the rest of the day, as I've been working very hard the past few weeks. I thank him profusely and head out to grab my belongings and clock out for the day.

While leaving, I find the young man who goes by the name of Jinxx walking out to his car. I stop him once more, and rethink him for his generous donation, and he gently puts his hand up, as if to say that I don't need to keep thanking him. He asks if he could possibly give me a ride home, and I tell him that would be wonderful, as my car is in the shop getting fixed and I carpooled with a colleague earlier that morning. He opens the passenger door, and motions for me to get in. "Your carriage awaits, milady"; he says in an old-fashioned manner. I giggle a little at his old-fashioned playfulness. I slowly get in and he rushes over to the driver's side getting in and starting up his vehicle. I hear some rock music playing and ask if I can turn up the music. He says "sure!" so I do. A very heavy metal-sounding song comes on:

"Behold the new hate with all the same lost values

Forsake what lives deeper

In death we're all believers

Raise up your sirens

Break through the silence

We are united in the search for something more

Cross your heart

Open your mind

Hide your face in their disguise

Even when I fall down to my knees

I never say a prayer I don't believe

And I don't wanna look up to the Son

But I will never be the faithless one

No, I will never be the faithless one

Refuse to destroy the altars we are serving

The truth in living is that our souls are searching

Live with defiance

It's time to fight

Don't ever let them keep your words from being heard

Cross your heart

Open your mind

Hide your face in their disguise

Even when I fall down to my knees

I never say a prayer I don't believe

And I don't wanna look up to the Son

But I will never be the faithless one

No, I will never be the faithless one

Even when I fall down to my knees

I never say a prayer I don't believe

And I don't wanna look up to the Son

But I will never be the faithless one

Even when I fall down to my knees

I never say a prayer I don't believe

And I will never look up to the Son

But I don't wanna be the faithless one

No, I will never be the faithless one

But I will never be the faithless one"

After the song finishes, he asks me what I thought of the song. I tell him honestly that it was amazing; he smiles and says that his band is the one who came up with the song, and that the title is called 'Faithless'. I tell him the song was well written and executed. He kindly thanks me, and I let him know we've arrived at my place. He pulls his car up into my driveway, and gets out opening up my door and he holds his hand out for me to grab. I get out slowly and fix my clothes, thanking him for the drive home and wave goodbye. He waves back and heads down my driveway, driving off. I wonder if I'll see more of him in the near future.
