The cold winter wind blew between the fragile branches. He pulled his coat tighter around himself, while taking cautious steps in the snow. He didn't want to slip and fall.
The journey from the subway had been long and tiring, because no cab was ready to take him to where he wanted to go.
His fingers were getting colder by the second. The gloves were back at home, nestled somewhere underneath his clothes.
A fog of warm breath made its way out of his mouth. His scarf had loosened up with him turning his head around to check if he was on the right road.
He sighed heavily, while fishing his hands out of the pockets and righting his scarf.
He wondered if he'd ever reach.
He looked up and stopped in his tracks.
There lay the same tree, covered in snow, with its roots sticking out, dripping with icicles.
He found it! Hahaha! He had found it! His heart jumped, before he literally jumped in joy.
Only he forgot that he was standing on a frozen lake and that it was pure ice beneath his feet. So he slipped like nobody's business and slid straight to the tree before hitting his butt at the trunk.
The fear flew right out of his mind as soon as he stopped and he managed to look at his state. Before long, he started to laugh hard.
Tears made their way out of his eyes, only to freeze an inch away from his eyes.
A shadow cast over him, making him open his eyes.
There she stood with a smile on her face.
"Hi."
