A letter comes in the mail one, stormy, Sunday morning.
Please join us
for the wedding of
Aaliyah Krystal and Chase Ryder Parker
at the cathedral of
St. John
on Saturday, July 26th
At 2:30 p.m.
A ring crashes through the air. Ring ring. Aaliyah picks up the phone.
"When were you going to tell us you were getting married?" Emily screams through the phone.
"It's nice to hear from you, too," Aaliyah says. "I haven't seen you guys in like two years, how was I supposed to tell you?"
"Through Facebook or Instagram. Maybe even a text. I didn't even know you had a boyfriend,"
"Well, he just proposed to me the other week, and we were planning on what we would do if we got married, so we had everything set up and ready already. It was actually less stressful then I thought it would be," Aaliyah proclaims.
"Oh quit bragging. Just because you got a guy before everyone else doesn't mean you're any better than the rest of us."
"Well, you guys did have guys at one point."
"Yes, but they never resulted in a wedding. Which could be a good thing, I guess," Emily sighs into the phone. "I just can't wait for the day I get to see you in a super fancy dress. I can just hear me now, 'My little Aaliyah is all grown up now.' I'll be like your mother, but your friend mother."
"This just got weird," Aaliyah's phone beeps. "Sorry, I have another call coming in. Talk to you later."
"Bye."
Aaliyah answers her phone, again.
"Hello?"
"Hi. This is Kyra Cooper. Your friend from middle school, and high school. I'm calling about this wedding invitation I got in the mail," Kyra pauses. "Is this some kind of sick joke?""What? No, I'm actually getting married. July 26th."
"Why is it that I have not met this Chase Ryder Parker fella?" Kyra asks. "His name sounds like a stripper. I always knew you liked the 'D'." Kyra laughs.
"Ew. What the fuck? Why?"
"I do it only because I know it bothers you," Kyra hangs up the phone without saying goodbye.
Aaliyah has a few seconds to get herself more comfortable on her couch before her phone rings, yet again.
"Aaliyah, this is Hannah. Why the hell didn't I hear about this earlier? I thought we were friends!"
"We are friends, stupid."
"Then why didn't I hear about this earlier?" Hannah asks.
"Because the cards didn't send out on time. You're the third person to call in the last twenty minutes, do you have something else you need to tell me about?"
"Well, uh, no. I guess not. But this conversation is not done yet, missy." Hannah says. "Bye. I'm going to eat my sorrows away in ice cream."
"Have fun."
Aaliyah make herself even more comfortable in her blue couch before she hears footsteps.
"Chase?" she calls. No answer. "Chase?!" Still no answer. She gets up from her couch and moves forward to the front door. It's cracked open like someone has just been there. "Hello?" She calls out. No answer. She walks into the kitchen, where she finds a bouquet of flowers. These weren't here before. She continues walking down the hallway into her bedroom, where she is mooned with a bare butt.
"Chase! What the fuck?! Get some pants on!" Aaliyah screams.
"Sorry," Chase says as he turns around, revealing his package. Aaliyah looks in awe for a few seconds, then turns her head.
"That's fucking nasty, you shithead!"
Chase smiles, showing off his straight, white teeth. "Come on. You know you like it."
"Maybe just a little," Aaliyah shyly smiles.
"There's that smile I love," Chase moves in closer to Aaliyah until they are almost breathing onto each other. Chase towers over Aaliyah, leaving a good seven inches between the tops of their heads. He breaths down onto her head, while she breaths onto his six pack of abs. Chase bends down, and kisses Aaliyah's forehead. "You know how much I want to kiss you, right?"
Aaliyah smiles even more. "I know. We can save our first kiss for our wedding day, okay, babe?"
"Okay, but that doesn't mean we can't get freaky, right?"
"I guess that doesn't count as kissing. I don't see why not."
"Cool." Chase says as he grabs hold of her and throws her onto the bed.
