10 Years Later

*Hailey’s POV*

I walked through the array of headstones. I came here every year on my birthday, to celebrate it with him. I gripped my cupcake in hand. Every year it was the same—chocolate with hot pink frosting. I spotted his headstone and sat down in front of it.

“Hey dad.” I said quietly. I pulled a lighter out of my purse and lit the cupcake. I closed my eyes tight and blew out the candle.

I paused for a moment. “I wished for you to come back.” I said, with tears in my eyes. I took out the candle and stuck it in the dirt right in front of his headstone.

“I love you daddy.” I said as I slowly stood up and walked back to my car.
