It's a new day
It's a new dawn
For me
And I'm feeling good
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Crawling into the car tirelessly, I stare at the lead grey house I call my home, which I would be departing from for six whole weeks.
A summer camp for music and dance. Not my idea of fun.
Since the age of 6, I have played the acoustic guitar. Now, at the age of 15 I am a grade 6 strummer. I'm not exactly the best at the guitar, but I am at a good standard. At least I wouldn't be too out of my depths at a summer camp for six weeks. However much I enjoy performing and practicing, it is not the reason i am going to camp. My mum and dad are going on their belated honeymoon. They were wedded 16 years ago August 19th, and had planned to spend their honeymoon together in Portugal. However due to bad weather conditions on the day of the flight (trust British weather) they never had a chance to go. I guess I got in the way most of the time. But today is the day they finally get to go, now that I was old enough to look after myself, or be dumped for that matter.Talking of my parents, they join me in the car after packing their suitcases into the boot as they would be going straight to Luton airport after dropping me to the camp.
My mums blondey-brown hair up to her shoulders. "You ready to go-go-goooo Ashley!?"
I nodded to the head mirror so that she could see my response. What a goof I thought. I was an only child so my mum had always played the silly older sister I never had role.Then, we drove away from home and my dad turned on his rock music. It all sounds the same to me to be honest, but some more catchier than the rest.
The drive would be 50 minutes, ugh I hate long drives. I pulled out my phone and plugged in my earplugs, which were previously in my pocket. I shuffle my music and 'see you again' plays. How ironic.
Enjoying the soft chorus sung by Charlie Puth, I close my eyes, and before I knew it, I was asleep.***
"Popsy?" my dad called.
I quickly awoke to the new surroundings of green trees, I pull the ear plugs from my ears which were now playing 'All american by Hoodie Allen, my favourite artist.
"Hmmm?" I questioned.
"We're nearly there".
"Kay".
Wow. I must've slept for most of the journey.Our red Aston martini pulled into the path of the camp. A sign read 'Music and Dance camp'.
"Now Ashely remember what I told you, be a good girl now, don't be mucking about will you? Your father and I have payed a lot of money so you can come here!", mum reminded me again for the 1048920204 time.
Responding the same thing I say every time she tells me to be good, "Yup I will mum".
We approached a parking lot for us parents and students.
A young man ran over to us and pointed to us an empty car space. He had blonde hair and brown eyes, he looked about 17, most likely one of the older students helping out.
"Just park over there. By the way nice car!" He smirked shouting over the rock music which was still playing which from the stereo.
"Thanks my daughter chose it" my dad replied looking my way. I felt rather proud.
"Good choice! you new to camp?" The young man asked me, he's deep eyes looking into mine. "Yeah. I am".
"Don't forget to go to the main office to get all the stuff you need. See you around."
I nodded my head to him and smiled. We then drove toward the parking space where he had pointed. My dad turned up the music, finding a song he liked.
First impressions are everything.
I liked the idea of being a punk rock chick. I looked out the window to see many faces gawking at us. I nodded my head in time with the music and looked at my dad, then back towards the window. Looking out again I saw a big field full of teens. Seeing one group of boys who had guitars, one with black hair sat up from where he was sitting to see us, obviously liking my dads music taste.
The car pulled to a halt as we arrive at the parking area.
Opening the car door, I jump out the car and brushed down my clothes. I then open the boot and grab my guitar which was in its black sleeve and suitcase.
Now that I see everyone else, I was rather excited! I had wore a greeny-blue crop top with leaves and trees on it, high waisted black ripped skinny jeans, my black vans with frilly socks and a light grey hoodie.
My mum rolls down the windows to speak to me, "make your way to the office hun, were gonna get going".
Having already said my goodbyes at home, I nod and say "bye have a good time" finished with a cheesy smile. I look towards my dad, his hair roughly brushed, I could imagine him as a rock star.
They then drove off.
I was by myself. At last!
Of course I would miss my parents, but the fact that I would be independent excited me.I was also looking forward meeting new people. As an only child, I've always felt lonely and different. Hopefully I could meet someone nice and good for me. I have always befriended the wrong people in the past, and always ended up on my own, one way or another. I joke to myself that I was my own best friend as I am the one person (apart from my family) who stuck with me throughout my whole life. Me myself and I.
Breaking from my thoughts, I look around to see if I could see the main office. I looked behind me to where our car once was. It was now no-where to be seen. Unsuccessful to see the office, i close my eyes and say to myself "I'm on my own from here".
