Interview Transcript: Lucy Corbett. 9.44 pm, July 9th, 2014.
"I know you're probably very tired, Ms. Corbett, but I'm sure you know how important it is that I ask you these questions."
"I know, it's fine. I just...I just want to find Mia as soon as possible."
"So do we, Ms. Corb-can I call you Lucy?"
"Sure."
"So do we, Lucy, but you really need to tell us where you were at 11.30pm on July 7th."
"Like I told the officer who was in here before you, I was at the local library studying for a chemistry test."
"During the summer?"
"I'm premed, and I really need to boost my GPA, so I'm taking a summer class."
"Were you alone at the library?"
A pause.
"No."
"Who were you with?"
"Nathan De Castro. He's my...classmate."
"Your classmate. Does Nathan know Mia in any way?"
"Yeah, sort of. We all come from the same small town. We all went to the same kindergarten and grade school."
"Would you call Nathan a friend of yours?"
Another pause.
"Is that a tough question?"
"No. I mean, y-yes. I would call him my friend."
"Do you know anybody else who can confirm that you and Nathan were at the local library together at 11.30pm on July 7th?"
"No. I mean...I'm...I'm not sure – I can't remember seeing anybody else that I recognised that night."
"Okay. Final question for now – can you think of anybody, and I mean absolutely anybody who would potentially want to harm Mia?"
"Don't you think I would have mentioned that by now?"
"That doesn't answer my question."
A tense pause, and then "No."
"Any enemies?"
"No."
"Any exes we should know about?"
A muted laugh. "Plenty. But no psychos or anything, as far as I know."
"Enlighten me on some of these exes."
"Well, the only messy breakup she's ever had was with this guy named Kevin."
"Does Kevin have a last name?"
"I...I can't remember it - he didn't go to our school, and...I think they met at a bar or something...Actually, I think his last name was Cabrita, or something like that."
"You think?"
"Well, it wasn't really that serious...they only went on a couple of dates, as far as I know."
"Why did you say it was a messy breakup then?"
"Well, after she dumped him, he tried coming around a few times to see her, but she didn't want to have anything to do with him."
"Why not?"
"She never told me. I just assumed he was a massive douche or something."
"Why didn't you mention him before, then?"
"He's...he's been dead for two months."
*****************
Don't worry, I'll be posting the main chapter a few minutes after this!
Before moving on, I want you to know that this interview is a very important one for many reasons (which is why I've included it at this point in the story). It'll become evident why this is the case as you read the rest of the book!
After reading the next two chapters, you may start to figure it all out! (Maybe, lol)
Please vote if you like this flashback! I'm experimenting with different types of writing and I thought I'd try out a transcript-type thing for this one.
I hope you're all intrigued and working those brains to solve the mystery!!
