"Same?" Was all Rylie asked when she looked at her sister. Rayne was her best friend and sister at the same time.
"Yup," she whispered back as the clock ticked to 12:56. That's when they would skip class between periods and meet up at the back of the building. The next class was math, and they hated math. They had most classes together, and that was one of them.
Rylie was supposed to be in detention after school that day for skipping math, but that wasn't happening. There was a big difference between what they are supposed to do, and what they actually do. Especially when it came to Rylie. They ran out of class when the bell ring, and out of the school.
They met behind the building, when Rylie panted, "I'm thinking... corner.. store... 553 East Lane.."
"Got- Got it!" Rayne panted back. They soon recovered their breath, because they were used to running. They would run from the cops all the time.
When they got to the corner store, all Rylie could get out was, "Hammer." That was all Rayne needed to hear, and she handed Rylie the hammer wile getting out a rock for herself. A lot of damage could be done by a rock, even though not many people know. Everyone underestimated them because they were slick so no one saw them, so everyone thought it was someone else. A real criminal. Ha. They were real criminals. People only thought they were just kids who skipped school. Oh no. Those kids were dead wrong.
Shattering the window, Rylie proved that. They climbed in.
"Lend me a hand," Rayne told Rylie. Rylie helped her up. No one ever came down this street, it was only after school when anyone ever did.
Walking slowly, looking around for something, Rylie spotted a head statue. She signaled to Rayne by nodding at it. Rayne took an extra hammer from the black bag they had, and smashed it until you couldn't even tell it was a head. Spotting a pricy picture frame, Rayne signaled to Rylie, and Rylie destroyed it before you could say "three".
Nocking things on shelves over as she passed, Rylie saw two necklaces displayed neatly together that had "PARTNERS IN CRIME" engraved on a silvery surface. She ran up to them and snatched them. I'll give the other to Shadow, she thought. But I almost feel bad, like they aren't worth anything if I don't pay for them.. she decided as she slapped $20 on the counter.
"I snatched these for us," Rylie said.
"Oh this describes us so well, Silver!" Rayne said.
They gave each other code names. Rylie was known as Silver, and Rayne was known as Shadow. Together, they were known as The Shadow Sisters. It's mostly because they move in the shadows, and they thought the name sounded cool.
"Yeah, I know neither of us are really jewelry girls, (they were tomboys) but it really did sound like us!" Rylie said. "I also kinda left twenty bucks on the counter, or else they wouldn't be worth anything.." she admitted.
"Dang girl, that was sweet!" Rayne exclaimed. The girls weren't ruthless, they just had a rough life and hated being controlled. They wanted to be free. Rylie's parents were divorced ever since she was one, and her dad would verbally, mentally, and emotionally abuse her. After a wile, she left him, not being able to deal with it, and lived with her mom ever since. She was an only child, and so was Rayne. When they met, they became so close of best friends, that they were considered sisters.
Rayne's parents were divorced when she was 4-6 years old, and couldn't remember why. She was surrounded by so much sadness and depression, as was Rylie, that it was hard to remember everything that happened then..
"Lets go!" Rylie said as they started to hear people. They both had sensitive ears, and that was useful when on the run. They jumped out of the smashed window after putting their necklaces on, and ran. They got about two meters before they realized the cops were running on foot. Police cars were behind them, and they were surrounded by police holding tasers. They wouldn't a hold a gun to either of their heads, but they wouldn't hesitate to taze them.
"Dang it!" Rylie cried out as she realized there was no way of escaping.
The police closed in on them, and one yelled, "Get on your knees, hands UP!"
ugh, Rylie thought, how are we going to get out of this one..? They were smart and slick, but they were both confused on how to get out of this.
