Emmett
The best part of the day is the part where I finally get to go home.
After high school, I decided that I want to study business. My dream is to one day become a big CEO.
But for right now, I'm stuck typing on a computer all day.
Yup, I'm still living in Seattle. Nothing has really changed, I have a beautiful girlfriend who I love and also loves me. Life couldn't get any better. We've been together for 10 years and my parents have started to push me to marry her. But something has felt a little weird lately. It's about time that I grew balls and put a ring on her.
Everything is finally starting to come together.Walking out of my office, I hear all my coworkers talking about the new management position in New York.
Getting that position could be big for someone's career. I know I have no chance there, though. I've worked here for a while, but I don't think I'm quite there yet.People here barely even know my name.
I sigh when I realize my truck is all of the way across the parking lot and head to my pickup.
Stopping by the store, I grab a couple things savannah told me we need for dinner. I head to the vegetable and grab lettuce and celantro.
Just as I head to the checkout, I see the bin of flowers, I grab savannah a bouquet of lilies. And head to the checkout.
"Were you satisfied with your trip?"
The girl at the cash register asks. She's wearing all black except for the red name tag she has on her chest that reads. 'Rebel'.
" I was very much satisfied thank you" I answer quickly. I wouldn't put it past this girl to shank someone who annoyed her. Rolling her eyes and glaring slightly she hands me my bag.
"Good. Now get out."
Well, that was pleasant. Hurrying to my car, I jump in and slam the door shut. That girl gave me the Heebie-jeebies.
Driving home quickly, I head inside to my picture perfect house where my girlfriend is waiting for me.
"Hey baby, " she says running up to me and giving me a kiss on the mouth. Kissing her back eagerly, she teasingly takes that bags and runs away. Smiling at her childish behavior I head upstairs to change out of my work clothes. I change into some old sweatpants and a t-shirt.
As soon as the smell of tacos hit my nose, I run downstairs and grab a plate.Eating together as our dog Regina George (Mean Girls), runs around waiting for someone to drop some food. Savannah named her after her favorite character. Regina is a big part of our tiny family.
I bought her for Savannah on our three year anniversary.Talking about our day, she goes on and on about her job at the hospital. Apparently, some nurse has a crush on another nurse, so on, so forth who knows. I'm just gonna leave the girly shit to the girls.
"And then Jess was all like, ' you suck' and I was all like 'you suck'. Can you believe someone would say that to me? Some people are such jerks. Like just because I accidentally broke her expensive car window with a sledgehammer doesn't make me a bad person. I mean, it was an accident, and plus nobody ever thinks about me. When I hit my finger on the glass, my nail SCRATCHED. God, some people are so selfish and self-centered."
Wow. Well, that was intense. And she wonders why I zone her out so much.
I like to think that our relationship is better when I don't know how she acts when I'm not around. That's how our relationship has survived so long. I don't ask questions, she doesn't ask questions."So how was your day baby?" She asks with a smile. "What'd you do today. Besides think about me, of course."
"Of course" as soon as those words leave me mouth, I watch as her eyes glaze over. She does this whenever she's thinking about her former best friend, Miley.
Miley broke savannahs heart when we were in senior year. Savannah told me that Miley bullied her all throughout their friendship, but as soon as we got together, she finally had the strength to end it.
Although, this explanation confuses me. Everybody loved her. Even the teachers. I had a huge crush on her in our freshmen year of high school but my parents hated her after what happened to our parents.
"Baby she doesn't deserve your pretty little thoughts," I say reaching out for her hand.
"Right. Of course. I know it's just sometimes.... I miss her"
She says as a tear falls down her cheek. Though I see no sadness in her eyes. This girl is strange. I've learned that. But I love that.Reaching out quickly I wipe the tear off her cheek.
"Honey, no don't cry. You don't need her." I hurriedly reassure.
"I know, " she says smiling her teary demeanor vanishing as fast as it had come. Sometimes I feel like it's all an act. But I feel guilty for thinking like that and quickly push that thought out of my head.
After helping her clear the dishes, we head upstairs and into the living room.
"What are we gonna watch tonight?"
"Oh my god, let's watch mean girls"
"Again?" I groan
Although I know there's no way I'm gonna win this one.
"Yup," she says kissing me on the mouth and making me grin.
Putting in the movie we lay on the couch with our legs and hands intertwined together. And laughing every time anybody said 'Regina' and Regina looks at the tv.
As I feel myself drift off I can't help but feel content. I love my girl and our dog. I have a good job, life couldn't be better.
When I wake up Regina is on the phone in the other room. As soon as I walk in she looks up smiles and says goodbye to whoever was on the phone.
"You ready for bed?" I say winking. She laughs and starts following me to our room.
