"Ugh Angela can you not?" Abby whines.
Abbigale, Amy and I are in the library together, which is our usual place to be for lunch. I'm on the floor with my laptop on my lap watching a horror movie like I always am. Right now I'm finishing off 'Saw' it's awesome so far. Amy is on a blue couch in the corner in the back of the library. She's on her phone scrolling through Instagram like usual and beside her is Abby. She's also on her phone talking to guys she met online, most of the time it's to make fun of them when they send her dick pics but every now and then she meets a nice enough guy to start a friendship with.
I can't help myself but tease Abby about this guy she's talking to, she met him on an app called anonymous and they talk almost every day. She says she doesn't like him but I still like to make fun of her.
"But you guys sound so cute." I say as I pull one of my earphones out.
"He's 18, and he lives in a different country. And... and we are just friends. So stop it okay? Anyway, why do you ship us so much? You haven't even talked to him before." Abby's eyes flick from her phone to me and then back as she speaks.
"I'm just a hopeless romantic. Isn't it just so cute when you think about, having your true love live kilometres away from you but then finally meet after years of being apart? It sounds just like a book or a movie right?"
Amy turns off her phone and joins into the convocation. "Yeah it does, but we aren't in a movie or a book, this is reality. Abby isn't gonna meet her 'true love' online or anywhere. True love doesn't exist. It's just a thing a guy made up once to win a girl or something."
Amy always does that, she always disagrees with me and always tries to prove me wrong. I don't know why she does it but lately, it's been getting on my nerves. I'm allowed to have my own opinions, just because she disagrees or thinks I'm wrong doesn't mean she can put me down all the time. She has always done it, ever since we started being friends which was like the middle of 8th grade last year. But anyway, that doesn't matter right now.
"Well," I pause the movie for a second so I can think of something to say to defend what I said but I really don't feel like arguing for the 4th time today. "I don't care." I see Amy roll her eyes at me and I feel myself getting angry but I try not to react.
"Can we just talked about something else?" Abby asks.
"Okaay, so are you guys okay with skyping tonight?"
"Yeah sure. But can you skype with something other than your laptop? Your mic never works and we can hardly hear what you're saying." Ava says as she unlocks her phone.
"The power drains too much on my phone, sorry, but we never talk anyway." I tell them as one of the guys in the movie cuts his foot off with a saw.
Whenever we skype we pretty much just wave hello and use the keyboard to talk to each other. I have no idea why we do it but that's just how it turned out to be. We skype most nights but lately we haven't because everyone has either been busy with assignments or gone to do something else.
Amy sighs and nods her head. "Okay that's fine. So tonight at around 5?"
Abby and I both agree.
The rest of the lunch is spent on our phones and laptops, we aren't the most social group in the 9th grade but we still are really close friends. I don't know where I'd be if these two didn't join my life when they did.
