"Hey Kar, are you busy?" Taylor asked Karlie over the phone.
"Nope, I have an hour and a half break on my shoot, what's up babe?"
"You sure I'm not bothering you?"
"Of course I'm sure!" Karlie reassured Taylor.
"Okay. Well I thought about what you said last week and I've just left mine go and see a doctor... you were right."
"That's a massive step, well done Tay, I'm so proud of you!" Karlie beamed to herself even though Taylor wasn't there to see it.
On the other side of the phone however, Taylor sighed to herself, wishing she could be proud of herself.
"I'm so scared Karlie." She sniffed, fighting to keep the tears back.
"You can do this! It's a step in the right directions. Just remember, it's their job to listen, so tell them everything you told me. If you want to you can call me after, I'll happily come and see you, okay?"
"What if I'm judged because of who I am?"
"They're not allowed to do that. And just because you're famous, it doesn't mean you don't have feelings. Be the brave Taylor I love, I know you can do this!"
"Okay Kar, I've gotta go now, I'm nearly there. I'll most likely call you later. Thank you and lots of love."
"You're welcome Tay, lots of love back."
Taylor pocketed her phone and began twiddling her fingers in anticipation, trying to keep herself occupied for the last couple of minutes of the car journey. One of the main reasons Taylor had decided to go through with this was because of her conversation with Karlie. Otherwise, she probably wouldn't have even considered it. She would've just tried to deal with it all herself. But she realised that sometimes you just have to accept that some things can't be done alone and that you need some extra help. So Taylor decided to make herself an appointment a few days after.
Deep down, despite the anxiety and fear she was feeling, Taylor knew this had to be done and there was no backing out.
After a couple of minutes, Taylor was brought out of her wandering thoughts an her driver told her they had arrived.
"Thanks, Tom. I'll call you later if I need a ride back. Take care." Taylor said to her driver as he smiled back at her then drove away.
Getting frustrated with her trembling hands, Taylor shoved them into her coat pockets hoping some warmth would help. Whilst walking into the entrance, Taylor kept her head down, not wanting people to recognise her. She approached the receptionist at the desk to check in for her appointment, wondering how she would do it subtilty so no one else would hear her.
The lady at the desk looked up and saw Taylor walking towards her. As if she knew what Taylor was thinking, the receptionist gave Taylor a slight nod.
"I've checked you in love, sit down wherever you like. If you wish for me to, I can come over and let you know when the doctor is ready to see you, saves you from having your called out. It looks like you don't want to be seen right now." The receptionist said sweetly to Taylor.
"That would be lovely, thank you so much I really appreciate it." Taylor said back to her. She felt her heart rate slow down a bit, not loads, but enough so it was a bit more bearable.
Taylor took a seat in the corner of the waiting room. As she sat down she saw a magazine with her picture on the front. The title made her cringe and her cheeks burn with anger.
"Celebrity fails of the week. Ha, brilliant." She sarcastically muttered to herself. All the articles made her anxiety levels grow even more. Having nearly her every move documented was really taking its toll on Taylor, mentally and emotionally. Taylor covered up the magazine, not wanting to see it anymore, and retrieved her phone from her pocket to put it on silent and send Karlie a quick text.
In the waiting room now, I shouldn't be too long hopefully, I will let you know when I'm out x
Once she hit send she placed her phone back into her pocket just as the receptionist came walking over to her.
"Hi lovely, the doctor is ready to see you noe. Room number thirteen." She smiled to Taylor.
"Thank you." Taylor took a deep breath in and walked down the corridor to the doctor's too. She knocked the door and was welcomed in. Before her legs had the chance to give way from beneath her, Taylor took a seat. Her mouth suddenly becoming overly dry yet again.
"So, what can I do for you Miss Swift?" The doctor politely asked.
Right, here goes nothing. Do this for Karlie Taylor thought to herself.
Taylor told the doctor everything she had told Karlie the week before. Once she had finished the silence in the room was far too loud and far too long for her liking. Even though it was only silent for two or so seconds before the doctor spoke again.
"These nightmares you talked about... what happens in them?"
"Well, uh, you know the demontors? From Harry Potter?" Taylor said feeling slightly embarrassed.
"Yea I am familiar with them."
"Well, it's basically them, except they aren't exactly wearing hooded cloaks, I can see their faces, I can see who they are. And they're the press, they're people who hate me, they're the faces of every person who had ever said anything bad about me. And they all surround me so I have no where to run, even if I could run, and they suck any remaining bits of happiness out of me. Along with every emotion inside me. So I'm empty. So I'm just existing. They suck out all of my secrete and reveal them everywhere. Everything ends up dark and cold, all my friends and family end up just as empty."
"How much sleep do you get a night on average?"
"I'd say an hour, if I'm lucky. The dreams are so realistic. Well, they are real. So it'd hard to fall asleep or stay asleep." Taylor sighed.
"Okay, what I will do for you will basically be a bit of a trial and error so we can find out what works the best for you. So today I am going to prescribe you some sleeping tablets called circadian, which contain melatonin. They will be two milligrams per tablet and you will take two a night. If we can get you to start having a reasonable amount of sleep, then hopefully we will see a decrease in your anxiety and depression levels. But if it doesn't work, then we will try a different approach." The doctor said matter of factly while writing Taylor's prescription.
After leaving the doctor's office and going to the pharmacy, Taylor took out her phone to call Karlie and let her know how the appointment went. Karlie answered almost straight away, as if she was sat by her phone waiting for Taylor's call.
"Hey, Tay!" she said
"Hi Kar, are you still at your photoshoot?"
"Oh no, we somehow managed to wrap early. How did it go with the doctor?"
"Eh, it went. Currently feeling emotionally drained. And cold."
"Why where are you?"
"Sat in the park opposite the pharmacy."
"What on earth are you doing there in the freezing cold?!" Karlie exclaimed.
"I don't know, I just ended up her. Kind of don't feel like going home right now I guess."
"Wait there! I'll be like ten minutes!" Karlie rushed.
"What, why?"
"I'm coming to get you before you get a cold or something, then we're gonna go back to my place and take your mind off things."
"Oh, no, Karlie it's fine honestly, I don't wanna b-"
Karlie interrupted. "Well I'm already out my door now so you have no choice. And before you finish that sentence, you're not bothering me, nor will you ever, and you are not burdening me. So sit tight and I'll be the as soon as I can!"
"Okay, okay, see you in a few."
Taylor put her phone away and thought about how lucky she was to have Karlie in her life.
So, so lucky.
