Chapter 3
Dreden:
I listened to the light sound of the engine as I stared out the tinted window of the car. We had been driving for nearly an hour and my nervousness was getting the best of me. I once again wiped my sweaty palms on my pants wondering when had I accumulated all this water.
My father was the head of one of the most well known businesses, which is called Headstone Banking. I was getting driven to meet him and listen to some of his coworkers, gigantic important ones. I then got the opportunity tell him my opinion about the deals that they would make.
Don't get me wrong, my father was really great on making decisions and deals, but sometimes two heads are better than one, and I knew his business inside and out, like the back of my hand.
I needed something or someone to get my mind off things so I reached for my phone and called the one buddy that made me feel happy and relaxed when I was nervous.
He picked up on the third ring, "Hello," the familiar voice answer, his voice sounding stressed.
"Hey Kyle it's Dre, I was wondering if you could help me?" I asked a second later I heard a frustrated sigh. "Is everything okay, you seem... weird?"
"My bad dude, I really really need to go take a leak. My bladder is seriously going to burst if I don't go right now!" he screamed at someone else. Who could he be with right now? It's after school so probably some of the other football players.
"Sure dude, I'll call you back." I said before taking my phone off my ear. I heard a muffled yell so I brought it back. "What'd you say?"
I was surprised as I heard a girl's laughter, one that sounded like me when Kyle did the hair flip. A I'm dying kind of laugh. Ah... it seemed like only yesterday Kyle did the hair flip. Wait it was today, what the heck is wrong with my memory! Anyways...
"Haa... Ohh..." I heard the girl say as she composed herself, I heard the rustling of clothes and then heard the sweet voice that would always be imprinted in my brain. "He said talk to Daya about it, and he'll be back in a minute." Day explained as she tried to refrain from laughing again, and I guess she cupped her mouth, muffling her last words.
I smiled, yes it had to be Day and she didn't even know who she was talking to. Muhaha, maybe I could trick her? I would be rubbing my hands together if I hadn't been holding the phone to my ear.
"No it's fine I'm almost there, I'll have to go in a minute. Sorry for that, on behalf of him," I said as the nervousness once again bubbled up as I recognized the road. One that I had been on countless times in the past three years, since I was fourteen.
It seems really young, but no 'The family business needs to live on, that means every new male member of the Chase family will start learning about the business at an early age,' at least that is how my dad explained it to me.
"N-no it's fine, if you want. I'm here." I could practically hear her shrug and smile, one that would fill up any person's heart with warmth.
Contemplating on if I should tell her, I was quiet and she replied with silence. Those words, 'I'm here' were words I always longed to hear, and I needed to feel relaxed. So maybe just once I could open up.
