“I get it. I totally get it now. This is the part where you act like you have no interest in me, but we all know that in a few weeks time with my charming words and good looks, you’ll fall for me like you know you want to. I understand, Fiona. This is like those books you girls always read, the movies you always see! The good girl who’s too good for anyone,” Todd McBride points at me, “and the bad boy,” he points at himself, “who could only ever behave for the good girl.”

“Get a life Todd. You don’t know me,” I say as I grab my books from my locker, slamming it shut.

“Oh but I do,” he says, “everyone does! You’re Fiona Wells. You love books. You know words nobody else understands. You hide behind that big hat of yours. You’re dissatisfied with life and that’s why I’m so perfect for you.”

Infuriated, I turn and walk away. That’s what everybody at this school does. They take a look at you and give you a label. They think they know your life story. If you’re lucky, they’ll take in a few words you say before they make their final decision.

I do love books and that’s the source of my vocabulary, but who’s he to say I’m dissatisfied with life? In fact, I like it a lot. I have so much world and wonder around me, sadly to be blocked by people like him.

Todd McBride. I’ve known him for a total of about one month, and thanks to my wide brim hat, love of Poe and Vonnegut, and total of one friend, he’s decided to make me his project. I guess all he wants to do is prove that he can get any girl in school, and he’s done a pretty good job so far, with the exception of myself. This won’t be a cliche, I’ll never fall for someone like Todd McBride, no matter how much he insists. I’m not a stupid girl. My mind is an endless labyrinth that Todd nor anyone could never navigate.
