"Hi mom. Sorry for waking you up, I know it's still early back home."

"Don't worry dear, your dad had to get up early for his work anyway. How was your flight?"

I tugged a strand of hair behind my ear while updating my mom on the 11-hour flight from London to Seoul. "It wasn't too bad, except for the fact I was squashed between the smelliest guy and the loudest snorer of the whole of Britain." I sighed at the memory. I literally had to concentrate for the full flight not to lose consciousness  because of the stench. I guess the pig-like sounds from my neighbour helped me with that too.

"Sounds delightful." My mother chuckled.

"Oh well." I continued. "I'm just waiting for my baggage to arrive now, so I thought I'd give you a call to let you know that I'm still alive."

"I am happy to hear that, will you let me know when you've arrived at the apartment?" My mom asked.

"Yeah of course, love you." I smiled, even though she couldn't see me.

"I love you too Olivia". My mom spoke before I hung up to concentrate on the luggage belt again.

After graduating from university this summer, I decided to take a gap year before getting a job and living like a normal British citizen. South Korea had always been a country I wanted to travel to. I was fascinated by its language and culture, and thought it would be amazing to experience it for myself. Through University I had come in touch with a company that sends English-speaking students to countries all over the world to teach the language to non-native speakers. I applied for a position in South Korea, got accepted, and now here I was.

I smiled back at the memories of this summer I had spent in London with my friends and family, who I'd miss very much. However, I felt happiness and relieve to be somewhere else than home. I was on the other side of the world, where I didn't know anyone nor anyone knew me.

Away from Harry.

I blinked away the tears that came up when thinking about him. We had been dating for two years after I found out he was betraying my the entire time. After having discovered his affairs with multiple other girls, I confronted him. Instead of apologising and trying to win me back, he only went and put salt on the wounds I had from events in the past. It had made me feel absolutely devastated. I had loved him so much and couldn't bear it any longer to be around the same place of which everything reminded me of him.

I took a deep breath. It was time for a fresh new start.

I snapped out of my flashback when I spotted my suitcase on the belt. "Took them long enough." I mumbled to myself as I reached out to pull it off.

I quickly headed towards the exit, at which someone from the company should be waiting to pick me up. Fortunately, I spotted a middle-aged man holding a cardboard with the company's name right away. Relieved I had found him so easily I approached him.

"Yeoboseyo." I tried in my very limited Korean I managed to master during a language course this summer. The man chuckled before replying with a heavy accent. "Hello, are you here for the HTE English teaching program?"

"Oh! You speak English, perfect." I smiled. "Yes I am indeed. I am Olivia, nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Soo-min, your driver for today. You're the first one to arrive!" He said cheerfully as I raised my eyebrows. "There's more people coming?" I asked. He nodded. "Yes, we are waiting for two others who will be joining the company this year. They're coming from other flights but they should be here soon since they've landed already." I nodded as I stood with him, waiting for the others.

He was a funny little man who was very curious about my whereabouts. I told him about my hometown, London. He told me he loved British people and has been trying to learn English for years now. Unfortunately he hadn't managed to get rid of his heavy accent.

It didn't take long for the second person to arrive. It was a blonde guy with a big grin plastered on his face. He looked like the typical surfer dude who spent too much time in the sun, bleaching his teeth, and picking up girls. A typical fuckboy, I thought to myself while preparing to greet him.

"Alright let's do this!" He said with a heavy Australian accent. "This is for the HTE English teaching program, right?" Soo-min nodded and introduced himself.

"Nice to meet you Soo-min! I'm Jake from Perth, Australia, ready to go!" He greeted back. I couldn't help but laugh at his enthusiasm. He was definitely excited about the whole thing.

"Hiya." I greeted him with a wave of my hand. "I am Olivia, from London." His smile grew wider at that, exposing more of his pearly whites.

I narrowed my eyes at them. They had definitely been bleached.

"Ooh British girl, nice one. I think we will get along very well." He winked. I could feel myself blushing, an annoying trait I have had for as long as I remembered. I have never been good with attention from boys and flirty jokes.

"Yeah, whatever." I mumbled, scolding myself internally for coming up with such a lame response. Jake was about to open his mouth again when another person approached us.

It was a girl with long brown hair that felt in perfect waves over her shoulders, which accompanied her green eyes very well. She looked very good for someone who had just been on a long flight, if only I could look like that.

I had managed to catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror when I went to the bathroom as soon as I had exited the airplane. My dark curls had stood all over the place, due to the different positions I had tried out to fall asleep in, and I had dark circles underneath my hazel coloured eyes, since the positions didn't work and I hadn't manage to fall asleep at all.

"Hi guys." She said with an accent that sounded American. "Is this for the English teaching program?" Jake's eyes shamelessly roamed over her body while I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes at him before answering her.

"Hi! Yes, you are the last one we are waiting for, right Soo-min?" He nodded and introduced himself to her once again.

Her name was Jessica, from Boston. After I had introduced myself too, Jake finally managed to speak up.

"Well, well... If I'd known that this company only hires pretty girls I would have applied way earlier!" He quipped with a smirk plastered onto his face.

Jessica snorted before rolling her eyes at him.

"Whatever, pretty boy. Don't even try to come near me or I'll break your spine and rip your balls off, which I'll happily feed to the dogs on the street." She spoke lowly as she pointed her index finger at him.

Jake's face immediately lost all colour while his eyes looked like they were about to pop out of their sockets.

Jessica and I bursted out laughing at his reaction, while Soo-min tried to get us to move towards the parking lot using a lot of frantic hand movements. I reached out to give Jessica a high five before finally following Soo-min towards the exit.

Little did I know, that this was the beginning of an experience of a lifetime.
