Chptr 2: Hanging with Shane

Shane Dawson woke up, brushed his teeth and put on a plaid shirt and blue jeans. The house just didn't feel the same since Lisa had gone. He felt lonely and sad, but tried to stop thinking about the hole in his heart and get on with the day.

{Shane's POV}

"I miss Lisa, I miss seeing her lying next to me when I wake up, or, hovering over me when she wakes before me. At least I have Corny, right Corny! Come on, come on! Hey! Hey Unicorn! "

Shane patted Corny and Corny's tail thumped the bed vigourously. Shane sighed, knowing his furry companion could not cause him to miss Lisa any less, and even though Corny was an amazing, loveable dog, she could not even begin to compensate for his girlfriend of two years' death. Yes, Lisa had died, along with one of her friends in a freak car accident. Her death had left Shane devastated, he was thinking about proposing! It was 5 months after the tragic incident, and Shane was only now beginning to piece together his broken life. Lisa's death had torn through Shane's heart like a bullet, knocking him down and wounding him. Shane reminded himself that hearts heal, and he was okay, and Lisa had died knowing he loved her more than anything. Shane thought about this as he drove downtown to record a podcast with Lauren, his producer. The podcast went well, with Shane plastering on a smile and cheerful tone of voice and talking as if nothing was wrong and nothing were wrong. Lauren tended to avoid asking Shane anything about Lisa or her death on the podcasts, but as soon as they finished she took off her headphones, looked Shane in the eye and asked "Are you okay? How are you managing?". It really meant a lot to Shane that Lauren cared as much as she did. Shane looked down at the ground and replied "yeah, I'm doin' all right, just trying to take each day one at a time". Lauren smiled a sad, empathetic smile. "I know, I know, just one day at a time". Shane blinked back tears and gave Lauren a hug. Then they each went their separate ways and Shane continued on with his day.

{Shane's POV}

"Lauren's really helping me through this, she can't even begin to know how nice it is that we can talk as intimately and heart-to-heart as we do". A sad look entered Shane's tired eyes, his thoughts transporting him to those happy days with Lisa. Tears welled in Shane's eyes, and this time he let them fall. "Anyways, anyways!" He said aloud, trying to distract himself from the pain and quickly wiping the tears away. " I have a life to lead, and I intend to do it! Lisa may be no longer with us, but I know she would have wanted me to continue to follow my dreams and live a happy, full life!"
