Emma's father had died when she was frankly just 14 years old, she had never met the man, and frankly had never wanted to.
She never needed that 'father figure', that all the others her age had, in her life. She survived without. And never did she feel anxious, embarrassed, or out of place.
Emma, as a child, thought not to ask why she had no daddy - this worried mother all throughout Emma's life. It wasn't until her daughter was 8 that mother pushed for her child to talk to her about it.
Emma smiled, shrugged, and looked at her mother sincerely, "I have you, what else can I need?"
Hillary was not satisfied with the response, but never pushed again.
