I hate that I remember
I wish I could forget
What you did last December
You left my heart a messYou sat wrapped in Cal's arms. Tears streaked down your face and small sniffles. Your head was buried in his chest while his large, lanky fingers rubbed soothing circles along the small of your back. He mumbled soft coos and sweet nothings in your ear, peppering your forehead with sweet little kisses.
You were heartbroken, absolutely distraught. You couldn't believe your boyfriend would break up with you and hurt your heart like he did. You didn't think he'd be someone to cheat, but he was. And now you were left with a broken heart during what was supposed to be the jolliest time of the year.
Luckily for you, Cal had your back. No matter what you could count on him to cheer you up and make you feel better. By the end of the night Callum had cleared your mind of your now ex-boyfriend, and was chasing you around the kitchen while the two of you made holiday cookies to get back in the Christmas-y spirit.
Thought we belonged together
At least that's what you said
I should've known better
You broke my heart again
Boy, you blew it
How could you do it, do it, oh, yeah? You couldn't fucking believe it. Again. He cheated on you again. You weren't even upset this time, just so fucking pissed off. Not only mad at your scum bag of a boyfriend, but mad at yourself. You were so dumb to give him a second chance after hearing him cry and beg for you back at the end of New Year's Eve. All he did was put on an act and give you the world's ugliest crocodile tears so you would take him back.
And of course you had to have to big of a heart, and of course you had to get screwed over again. Once a cheater, always a cheater, right? Now it was less ones learned and you weren't about to talk to this asshole ever again.
You let out a breath and dialed someone you now you could vent to.
"Hey, Callum?"
"Yeah, (Y/N)?"
"He's a fucking dickhead cheater." You hugged into the phone. Cal only chuckled and you could picture him shaking his head at you.
"I'll get you a peppermint mocha frappuccino and you can vent out all your anger."
"Sounds good... And Cal?" A faint yeah was heard on the other side of the receiver. "Thanks for always being a good friend ."
Cal bit his lip, leaning back in the seat of his Range Rover. His lanky fingers brushed through his hair and he let out a small sigh. "No problem, I'm always a friend that'll be here for you." But, oh, did he wish he could be more than that. He wished he could be more than someone you called to vent to, more than someone who watched you cry after heartbreak, more that just a friend.
This year
To save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special.Again, it was the time of year. The holidays were in full swing and again you were at Cal's flat. This year, however, you were all smiles and no tears. You were helping decorate the flat to make it less dreary and boring and to make it more festive.
Fairy lights were strung along the walls and a wreath hung on the front door. The two of you had just finished up decorating the tree and were adding some finishing touches.
"Hey Cal, can you help me hang this up?" After struggling for multiple minutes and standing on your tippy toes to hang a piece of mistletoe on the ceiling, you resorted to Cal for help.
He snorted as he watched you jumped and stretched your body up as high as it could go in attempts to hang the decoration. He crossed his long arms over his chest in amusement before shaking his head at you and coming to your rescue. Gently, he wrapped his arms around your waist and lifted you up so you could finally reach the damned ceiling. Once you hung it, Cal laughed and slung his arm over your shoulder.
"You're so short, like a little elf." He teased, and you groaned, giving him an exaggerated eye roll.
"And you're a giant, like a damn Christmas Yeti. We should call you CalYeti."
"Oi, haha soo funny! CalYeti, great banter." He flicked your head lightly, earning himself a small smack on the chest.
Cal grabbed your hand and smiled down at you. You looked absolutely adorable and he couldn't take his eyes off of you. You stood in an Christmas jumper you'd stolen from him, and your feet were covered in fuzzy socks that stopped at your mid-calf and had a Rudolph patter on them. He enjoyed the way his sweater swallowed your body and pooled at the ends of your hands because the sleeves were too long. His eyes scanned back up to your cheerful face and he grinned at the smile you wore this year. The past holidays seasons sucked for you because of that douche of a boyfriend you had, but he was so glad he was long-gone and wouldn't be back. Seeing you so distraught broke his heart and he hated watching you cry over dumb boys that didn't deserve you.
You got lost in his eyes. Rocking back and forth you couldn't help but appreciate you best friend. Not only for his good looks, (because let's be honest, you could go on for days appreciating his toned figure, ocean-blue eyes, plump rosy lips, and dirty blond hair) but his personality, his heart. He was always there for you, whenever you were in any amount of distress he was by your side instantly. Cal always cares about you and wants you to be happy, and you didn't realize it until now.
You didn't realize the feelings you had for him deep inside of you. You didn't recognize the heart flutters whenever he hugged your or held you. You didn't notice how much you loved hearing his voice, how much you loved spending time with him. You didn't register that you were trying to push these feelings away by dating guys like your ex. You didn't realize you were in love with Cal and that he loved you back.
Your breath hitched in your throat as you came to the realization. How could you be so dumb? How could you not realize you had the greatest guy in the world right in front of your face? You could be so dumb sometimes.
Cal cast his eyes down at you, his arms still lazily wrapped around your waist. He watched as your lips parted and broke the silence between the two of you.
"I'm so sorry, Cal." The tall boy tilt his head and his brows furrowed in confusion, urging you to continue on talking. "I'm sorry I didn't realize what I had right in front of me. I-I'm sorry I was crying over idiots when I had you all along. I'm sorry for not realizing I was in love with you earlier."
His heart stopped at the confession, his plump lips parted in shock as he tried to find words to say. He finally broke out into a grin, pulling you up into his arms, spinning you around as an infectious laugh filled the apartment building. He set you down and he couldn't stop the smile that graced his lips.
"You love me? You really love me? Holy shit, I love you too. I always wanted to tell you but I just, I didn't wanna ruin anything." Cal explained, scratching the back of his head shyly as he looked down at you.
Joy filled both of your hearts and Cal built his lip, a nervous habit of his. "Can I, can I kiss you (Y/N)?"
"Well, I think you kind of have to kiss me, or else you'd be breaking a holiday tradition." You nodded up at the piece of mistletoe that hung above your heads.
Cal laughed and bowed his head down, "Can't go breaking traditions now, can we?" And slowly he connected his lips with yours. No more having to watch you cry over idiots, no more Christmas heartbreaks. You were so happy you finally gave your heart to someone you truly loved, someone special.
