Wyvern had always hated her name ever since she could remember. Her mother liked unique and unforgettable names so when her twin daughters were born Andromeda named her daughters; Nymphadora and Wyvern Tonks. Wyvern had to admit her name wasn't as bad as her sister's but it still wasn't pleasing by any means.

"Mum come on! You promised I could get a cat today!" Vern yelled from the living room waiting for her mother. Tonks chuckled and looked at her sister.

"Why do you want a cat anyways when you have me?" She asked morphing her ears into cat ears. She let out her best meow making Vern snort.

"That was pathetic Nymph." Vern said shoving her sister over onto the couch. Tonks rolled her eyes and stood up before looking down at her twin sister. They weren't even close to identical the only thing they had in common was their brunette hair which Tonks often changed. "Because I want an actual cat so, I have someone to chat with while you're off being a show off." Vern said as their mother finally appeared. "Took you long enough I feel like I aged ten years." Andromeda crossed her arms over her chest.

"Keep sassing me, Wyvern and you can forget the cat." She said sternly. Vern sighed and bowed her head.

"You promised if I started learning the piano then I could get a cat." Vern said looking up at her mother with a pouted lip.

"Wyvern, you're nine and that pout is way too overused." Her mother said trying to be stern but as she watched the young girl's natural blue eyes grow big and glass like did she break and grab the jar of floo powder. "You wait for me to get there before you go all willy nilly okay?" Andromeda asked her daughters, Vern nodded obediently while Tonks rolled her eyes. Tonks went first with Vern close behind her. They waited for their mother to arrive so they could head to the pet shop down the alley that was completely consumed by witches and wizards. When Andromeda finally appeared she wasn't alone, Ted, the only man of the house had just gotten off of work.

"Dad," Vern exclaimed happily. "Did you come to help me pick out a kitten?" She asked excitedly as she took his large making her hands look smaller than they already were. Ted chuckled down at Vern's excitement.

"Of course, Way." He said as they walked down the alley towards Magical Menagerie. As soon as they got close enough to the shop Vern let go of her father's hand and ran up to the door. She stepped into the cramped shop and she looked around for cats. She found their cages all lined up and as she examined each one a little kitten at her eye level off to the right let out a powerful meow before flopping over as it hit the front of the cage with a soft thump. Vern let out a giggle as she locked eyes with it. The kitten laid upside down.

"Good I got your attention." The little kitten said looking at Vern as it started rolling over.

"Of course you do. That powerful yell was very cute." She said reaching in to pet his fluffy head. He looked at her amazed.

"You can hear me?" He asked tilting his head off to the side. Vern let out a soft hum before nodding.

"Yes, I can. I'm able to communicate with any animal." The young brunette said softly to the young kitten.

"Finally at least one human can hear me when I ask for food!" He exclaimed leaning against the front of the cage. Vern nodded with a giggle.

"As long as I'm near you I can hear you." Vern said softly. "Now you need a name." She opened the cage and the young kitten leapt into  Vern's arms. Ted watched off to the side smiling as Andromeda leaned into him.

"I think Way has a new friend, Andy." He whispered softly as their youngest talked to the kitten.

"I'm going to have to clean up cat hair." Andromeda muttered with a sigh she wasn't sure about buying a cat but when she heard Vern laugh she couldn't help but smile. "At least she's happy." She reasoned to herself.

"What about Nightshade?" Vern asked with a giggle.

"No." He replied quickly hissing at the name.

"Okay.... hmmmmmm...... What about Dragon? They are my favorite animal and your eyes remind me of them." She said softly to him. He let out a soft purr as he closed his big green eyes briefly.

"Alright just as long as I'm your favorite cat." He told Vern opening his eyes back up to look at her.

"I can make that deal." She agreed before walking over to her parents. "I'd like this one. He's letting me call him, Dragon." Vern said with a proud smile. Tonks snickered at her as she sat near the door.

"I thought you were saving that name for when you got a pet dragon or are you going to name it Cat?" She asked her younger sister mockingly. Vern pursed her lip and nuzzled her face into Dragon's fur.

"You're just jealous Mum and Dad didn't get you a pet." Vern snapped at her older sister defensively as Dragon let out a low rumble.

"I already don't like her." Dragon glared at Tonks and let out a hiss. Vern kissed his head softly and held him close.

"It's okay, she's not always this obnoxious or rude. She's just in a mood." Vern convinced Dragon as they picked out supplies to take home with them. Soon the young girl had two bags full of cat toys and necessities such as food dishes, a liter box (which her mother was carrying), cat liter and cat dried cat food.

"Now, can you think of anything else Dragon needs?" Ted asked his daughter getting a shake of the head from her. Dragon was still nestled in Vern's arms as they apparated back to their home. Vern let out a small squeal and ran upstairs to her room with Dragon where she set up everything happily.

"Alright Dragon, this is your new home bud." She said softly. "You can sleep with me if you like or I can make a bed out of blankets for you." She said putting all of his toys into a bin near the foot of Vern's bed. He stood on it and let out a purr as his feet started to sink into her bed. He jumped around hoping he wasn't sinking to his death which made Vern laugh hysterically. "Calm down bud it's just my mattress don't worry you be fine." Vern reassured the lively kitten before finishing setting everything down orderly.

Later on that day, after their family dinner Vern got ready for bed. She pulled back the covers and grabbed her book on all the species of dragons. Dragon climbed into her lap as they sat in Vern's bed.

"Are you obsessed with dragons because of your name, Vern?" Dragon asked glancing up at her with his big green emerald eyes. She nodded as she scanned over the same paragraph she'd been reading all week. The paragraph was about a dragon sanctuary that a group of dragon specialists wanted to put together in Romania.

"Some day Dragon, you and I are going to Romania to live among the dragons. That's my dream; you, me, and thousands of dragons in Romania." Vern said in a dreamy tone as she ripped the page up and tacked it up on her wall before grabbing a marker and circling the paragraph.

"Wherever you go I go Vern. If you want it to be you, me, and thousands of dragons in Romania then consider it done." Dragon climbed from her lap to lay beside her. Vern turned off the lamp at her bedside and wrapped an arm around Dragon making him purr.

"Goodnight Dragon. Pleasant dreams." She whispered against his fuzzy black fur. Dragon rubbed the back of his head on her nose.

"Goodnight Vern. I hope you dream of Romania and herds of dragons." That was the last thing Vern heard before she fell asleep buried under the covers with her new found best friend. That night she dreamt of the beautiful lush forests in Romania with herds of dragons where the only other people shared her obsession with the magnificent wonders that are dragons.
