Toby skidded to a stop as he reached the border between the marked domain of the forest and the unmarked. As he was looking around, a twig snapped and he whirled around in time to see something disappear behind one of the large boulders no more than ten feet away. Adjusting his hood, Toby slowly made his way towards the boulder, being careful to not step on any twigs and silently celebrating inside his head that it was finally summer and there weren't any leafs on the ground to step on.
When he was only two feet away from the boulder, he lunged forward with a grunt and jumped behind the rock expecting to see possibly an animal or someone who had gotten lost. Instead, there was nothing there except a piece of paper taped that had been taped to the boulder. Toby reached out and took hold of the paper, pulling it off of the rock to read what was on it.
CAN YOU SEE IT?
Toby clicked his tongue and crumpled the paper up in his hands before throwing it aside and continuing his search. His eyes must've been playing tricks on him again; there was no sign that anyone but him had been there. With a sigh, Toby sat down at the base of a tree and looked up at the sky through the leafs. Just as he was beginning to relax, there was the sound of multiple twigs snapping behind him. He scrambled to his feet and looked behind the tree to see Masky standing a few feet away with his hands shoved in his jacket pockets.
"What are you doing here?" Toby asked. "This isn't your domain."
"It isn't yours either," Masky replied as he took a step towards Toby who automatically backed away.
"Don't," Toby hissed. "Just go back to the mansion and don't come back here."
"You can't tell me what to do, kid, you're below me more than you ever were now," Masky growled as he began walking towards Toby at a steady pace. The younger boy quickly turned around and began running away from the danger which was sure to come if he stayed where he was.
"Come on, Toby, you know you can't outrun me," Masky said as he began gaining up on Toby.
"Leave me alone!" Toby shouted as he turned right to circle around back towards the river where he hoped to lose the Proxy and would hopefully be able to go back home.__________________________________________
Ahh! I'm sorry this took me so long to finish! I've been caught up with AO3, schoolwork and other works and I haven't been able to work on this very much. ;-; But once break starts and I'm out of school, I'll be able to be on here a lot more.
