Chapter 2 | Present Day

" You were born because you'll be important to somebody someday. "

- #Teenager Post
(Delilah in the media)

" Delilah wake up before Ms. Basset comes with the belt." Malia admonished me. I was woken as soon as she mentioned belt. I rubbed the crust out of my eyes looking at the little kids playing around.

" Ugh!" I groaned, getting off the cold, hard bed. I walked to the storage closet and took hold of a towel and a toothbrush. Just as I was starting to walk into the bathroom here come Ms. Basset.

" Hey, stop all that damn running." she hollered at the little kids that was running around. She turned her head to me giving me her undivided attention.

" Why are you still not dress. Do you want me to kick your ass? Go get ready!" she demanded I rolled my eyes, dragging myself into the bathroom with my clothes that were donated to me.

I looked at the clock on the wall only to discover I have 30 minutes or I'll be late to school. I brushed my teeth. I then hopped in the shower, and handled the rest of my business. I dried off putting on my black bra and panty set, I decided to wear black leggings, a white top that had ' 90's ' going across the middle. I put my denim jacket on and my wheat timberland boots that were to big. To compliment my look I put on my gold chain, passed to me by a friend before she was adopted, with some bracelets. I checked my appearance and fixed my natural curly hair until I was satisfied at how I looked.

I grabbed my teared up floral book bag and was on my way out the door. I walked on the side of the pavement to the bus stop where some other people were standing. Normally I would have walked the whole way, but since I was late getting up it would have taken me longer to get to school. I took a seat on the bench right before the public transportation bus pulled up for route 87th. I pulled out the little money I had saved up putting it in the machine. I spotted a seat in the forepart of the bus and sat down. I looked out the window wondering how it would feel to be free, with family who don't betray you.

I still remember that day like the back of my hand.

I ran and ran and ran till I couldn't run anymore. My feet were aching and my legs were hurting from the inside near my punani. I looked around at my surroundings. I was on a street where there were sick people that walked around scratching like they had fleas. I was so afraid that I could feel my blood pumping through my veins. I don't want to live on the streets, nor did I want to get raped so I'm glad I did run.

I ran to the nearby bench in the park across from the apartments. I sat there watching people and kids my age and younger walk by and play. There was an old lady I saw that would peak a couple glances at me through her window. I didn't pay any mind of it though. I started to break down crying in my hands as soon as the sun started going down. I was a alone, I didn't have no food, no shelter, barley my clothes.

I looked around to see if there was somewhere I could sleep on these dangerous streets. I found a tunnel by the slides and squeezed inside. It was freezing compared to what the temperatures were earlier. I huddled in a ball wrapping my arms around my legs as tight as I could. The wind blew across my shivering body as I rest my head on my kneecaps.

3:28 am

"Young Lady " A voice said, tapping on my shoulders. I lifted my head to see a white police officer flashing a flashlight inside the tunnel. I put my hand up to block the bright light so I could adjust. I looked at the man to see a black officer next to him.

" Hi, My name is Officer Randers and we were filed a report about a child sleeping in the park. So we need you to come down to the station Okay." Officer Randers notified me. I just shook my head viciously. I was nervous about what was going to happen. I didn't know it was a crime to sleep in the park. The black officer guided the way back to the vehicle and held the door open to the back seat.

When we arrived at the station they told me to take a seat in a chair. I was told that someone was coming in to talk to me. I put my head down lost looking at the tile they had on the floor. After waiting a couple of more minutes a sound of heels were clicking on the floor coming my way. When the noise stopped there was a pair of black heels in my vision. I looked up to see a white woman standing in front of me. She bent down to my level.

" Hi sweetheart, my names Mrs. Rose. What's yours? " She questioned. I was confused why she was all in my face, but I'm guessing this is who I suppose to talk to.

" My names Delilah , but why am I here I did nothing wrong." I retorted. She only looked at me with sincere.

" Well Delilah , come into the office with me and we will discuss that in there. So come on " She stood up and drew out her hand for me to take. I q grabbed her hand getting out of the chair I been sitting in the past hour. We walked hand in hand to the office. I took a seat on the comfortable chair.

" Okay, so Delilah your here because a older lady reported a child that was in the park. This report was turned over to the department of children and family services. Do you mind telling me why you were in the park asleep. Do you know where your parents are." She questioned me. I wonder if she was talking about that old lady that was looking at me. I was hesitant about telling first, but what the heck why not.

" I ran away from home and ended up at the park. I live with my mom but she left and never came back." I answered with a shaking voice. Leaving out the part where the man touched me.

" Well that's all I needed to know. You will be sent over to a foster home during sunset. You will be taken to a better place Kay. For now you will sleep here ." she explained walking me to a room that had a bed.

***

The next day I was taken to a foster home with other kids. I been stuck there every since.

" Next Stop 87th Queensland " The loud automatic voice stated in the speakers. I pulled the line on the window to notify the bus driver where to stop. I stood up grabbing the handles. When the bus stopped I got off and walked another block to my school. Today was going to be like any other day. I walked through the double doors of the small school and walked to my locker. I passed people by going to my locker on the far end of the building.
