Sirius Black was alone, and tired of it. So, so, so sick of being alone.
It had been a year of loneliness, and he simply couldn't bear to live with it anymore. That's why he'd stopped eating.
If it was the only way to get where he wanted, then so be it. He just wanted out.
He hadn't eaten in four days when Malfoy showed up.
The blond man stood on the other side of the bars, his grey eyes lit as he looked around quickly.
"Malfoy. What do you want?" Sirius asked, a wary look on his face. Lucius rolled his eyes.
"Get up. The ministry sent for you."
"That's not a thing the ministry does. Look, Malfoy, I know we don't get along, but-"
"The Ministry sent for you, they're doing that now. Get up."
"Why?"
"Because. I'm a ministry worker, and you're on death row. Let's go, Black," Malfoy snapped, looking around again. Sirius stood, walking to the bars.
"Grab my arm. Quickly," Lucius commanded. Sirius did.
And then, they were standing in front of the Lupin residence.
"What's going on?" Sirius demanded, spinning to glare at Malfoy, "are you trying to get me arrested again for breaking out?"
"Don't be an idiot. You're on ministry probation. We're opening up another case, since there's a few things that don't make sense. You're going to get your wand back in a few hours, once we've run the test to check for the spell."
Sirius Black wasn't an idiot.
"That's not something the ministry does. I thought you'd broken my wand. Who told you to get me out and check the wand?"
"We don't actually break the wand for this exact reason. Take a guess as to who got me to get you out."
The door opened, and Sirius barely had time to turn before he was hit by a light mass of colorful sweater and long, blonde hair.
"Sirius! Oh, my god! You're back!" the girl exclaimed, grinning with tears in her eyes.
"Ashlynn? Oh my god, it was you!"
He hugged her tightly, before pulling away and grinning.
"Lucius, thank you so much. You're a fucking blessing," she said, hugging the other man. Malfoy smirked, rolling his eyes.
"The things I do for you," he remarked, hugging her in goodbye before apparating away. Ashlynn grabbed Sirius' wrist.
"Come on. I've got a room all ready for you, and we can go shopping soon. You're on probation, so don't worry about being seen. Remus will be so happy to see you again, it's been so long since he's seen the people he loved. Oh, and I have a surprise," she rambled, a smirk growing on her lips as she pulled him into the house.
"What is it? Ash, what did you do?"
"Wait here."
Sirius was left waiting in the living room, looking around at the pictures. He could tell that she'd been here for a few days, and already it was homier than it had been when he'd left it. Ashlynn had that effect.
He was startled out of his thoughts when the sound of laughter moved down the stairs. Remus came down, holding a toddler in his arms. The boy looked over, the scar on his forehead and they eyes of Lily Evans giving Sirius the hint.
"Hey, there, prongslet!"
