The sound of the wheels as they hit the grout in between the tiles is the only thing that can keep my mind focused. I stare straight ahead, where I see gate number twenty two. The 8:00 pm flight directly to LA.

It's okay. It's only a two hour flight, and then it's time to get down to business. As we reach the gate a small bell dings to alert people to start boarding. I  begin to panic a little.

"Oh wow I thought we would have more time." Mom says as she grabs me. She pulls me into a hug, I close my eyes and bury my face into her shoulder. This is it.

I say my good byes and hold my ticket near the desk while I wait for Allie. She's hugging her dad, I can see her trying to reassure him everything going to be fine. As she walks over, I realise I still need to give mom something.

I run back to her, "Hey could you put this in my room? I want it to be there for when I come home next." She puts her hand out and I slip a small token into it. She smiles when she realises what it is.

"Don't want to lose that." I let go of her hand and say my goodbye again, this time for real.

I run over to Allie, the time is finally here. "You ready?" She says with a smirk on her face.

"Ready."

And then we're off. There is now a barrier between the people we were and the people we are. No turning back now. and we walk down into the plane hand in hand, all we have is each other.

And then it happened. Here we are in California. We leave the airport and feel different. There's a buzz I cant get rid of, I want to explore.

We wait in the long line for a taxi until finally the car pulls in and we pack our bags into the boot. As the man leaves the airport and drives through the city, I'm taken into another dimension

The lights draw me in. The people everywhere yelling and screaming, laughing and dancing. This is what I want.

I look over at Al and she's just as excited as I am. "Can you believe it?" I say quietly to her, she doesn't say anything back, she just smiles as big as she can.

I put down the window and feel the wind hit my face, there's music playing everywhere, the whole city is a party, It feels like my first taste of freedom, I don't think I'll ever get tired of these sights, it's everything I'd ever imagined.

We get to the apartment place where we are staying. I look the building top to bottom, and no, its not much, but it will do. Al and I drag our bags up the few steps to the entrance, and over to the elevator. I hit the button to floor 11, and when the doors shut we have our first silent moment together. I look at her, she looks at me, and we but burst out laughing.

"We're here," I say trying not to burst out into a crazy jumping attack

"We're actually here." She says, her voice quivers trying to contain a squeal.

I pull my hands into a fist and hit them around in the air, trying to calm down. This is unbelievable, our sleepover scenario is now a reality.

Allie takes the lead, skipping down the hall with her index finger sliding across the wall as she counts the apartment numbers. "This is us!" She yells jumping up and down, putting her hands out for me to give her the key.

I catch up to her and hand her it, waiting in anticipation as she unlocks the door and slowly walks in.

Its small, and a little dated, but it feels so cozy. As I walk inside, straight ahead is a gigantic window, looking out into the city lights.
