A pair of shining eyes stood still silently through the utter darkness. The cat's body shone brightly as it sat majestically, high in the night sky. It gazed over its former clan, observing the clanmates thoughtfully, but specifically concentrating on one. Eyes narrowing, it focused harder, sensing something bold about the she-cat.
"There's something about her." The thick-furred she cat stated to her fellow friend standing next to her. The smaller, more hesitant tom frowned slightly, his sky-blue gaze clouded with uncertainty.
".. A-Are you sure, Dewstar? I mean... she's good, but she doesn't hold all the expected qualities.."
"I know. But that doesn't mean that she won't gain them." Dewstar retorted thoughtfully with an intelligent tone. Her decision was bold - she was certain in her choice. The tom, however, still felt unsure.
".. There are others. Like... Like Minnowflash, o-or Dustflow.."
"Pebblesplash, they're not fit for it. Minnowflash holds all the qualities, but she acts too fast - she never thinks before she acts. And Dustflow won't go too far with sacrifice - he puts himself before others. They need to be ready to not only win, but lose too." Dewstar explained briefly before instantly turning her head back to observe the interesting she-cat with curiosity as she slept underneath the stars. Still unconvinced, Pebblesplash supported his decision with a thoughtful retort.
".. She's not even a fully grown warrior yet. She's not as intelligent as a senior warrior would be. Wouldn't it be more suitable for someone more wiser to do the job?" He was hesitant, yet he stood strong with his words. Dewstar looked at him with soft eyes, then chuckled briefly. Her voice showed a sense of amusement.
"You don't understand! She's unique - she's even more experienced than some of the senior warriors. They may hold more battle scars, but she holds more mental scars. She's been thrown into a deep pit of emotion and back, yet look at her now. That is proof that any cat can recover from any wound, physical or mental, no matter how serious. Also, just because she is young doesn't mean she is weaker than them. It's like a baby bird: as time carries her, she will soon learn how to fly herself. All we need is patience, and all she needs is guidance. Let time carry you; don't carry time. This is my final decision." Pebblesplash though for a moment, Dewstar's words echoing in his mind like a dog begging for a treat. Sighing, he reluctantly agreed to her decision.
".. Fine.. I guess you do have a point. " He showed that he was feeling happy about her decision, yet in his mind he couldn't push away his hidden pessimistic senses. What would she do? How would she react to the weight put on her light shoulders? Shaking his head, he pushed away his concerned questions and proceeded with his words.
"Dewstar, former leader of WindClan, please state your final decision." Dewstar sighed, pausing as she locked eyes with the former medicine cat. What if he was really right? No. She wasn't going to let his thoughts destroy her beliefs. Nodding confidently, she stated with a bold voice.
"My choice is Sparrowmask of WindClan." For a moment, Pebblesplash froze and stared into her starry eyes. Narrowing his gaze, he dipped his head slowly and continued. He sighed, then took a hesitant step towards her, just so the tips of their noses could press lightly against each other. His neck was stretched upwards as he was nearly the same size as a fresh apprentice. They both closed their eyes tightly in sync as a bright light slowly begun to appear. Its rays of light burst through the air around them, streaking brightness across the dark night sky. Suddenly, the lights flashed in front of Pebblesplash's eyes, making the blue strike boldly into shining crystals. His voice was immensely deep as his jaws parted slowly to speak aloud an omen:
".. As one will fall, another will rise. A great darkness will unleash, only quenched by sacrifice."
Instantly after the words came out, the light burst free of it's vessel. The force of the powerful beam blew back the two cats, flashing against the obscure night. Abruptly, after glowing brightly, it shifted into deep, dark foreboding smoke. Immediately after changing, it disappeared into tiny dust particles which fell through the air. Both Dewstar and Pebblesplash were panting with fear, yet Pebblesplash's sense was much more powerful.
"W-What are we gonna do? How can a cat like Sparrowmask hold a dark prophecy like that?! She won't survive something like that!" His paws were trembling beneath him as he struggled to stand. Surprisingly, Dewstar slowly balanced back onto her paws with calm, optimistic eyes. Her chest shone out with pride as the stars around her glowed freely.
"I'm confident in my decision. She's a strong cat underneath her vulnerable mask - through troubles and terrors, I'm still sure she can stare evil in the face." She beamed majestically. Pebblesplash's eyes showed doubt and shock, yet he nodded shakily in reluctant agreement with his former leader. Sitting back down, Dewstar's eyes shone eagerly down on Sparrowmask as she continued to observe her.
"It has been chosen. Sparrowmask will carry out the prophecy. Her fate will be her guidance."
