Charlotte took a deep breath and walked inside the hospital room. Floor lay on the bed, her eyes closed, her face pale. Her forehead was bandaged, as were her arm and torso. Charlotte went slowly over to her and took one of the brunette's hands in hers. Floor's eyes opened, and Charlotte nearly cried when she saw them. Her gaze looked fractured, like she wasn't seeing things the way she used to. The doctors had warned her that Floor might not seem like herself, but this was beyond anything Charlotte had imagined.

"Hey, Floor," she said, her voice almost a whisper. Floor's eyes focused on her face and she squinted slightly, then blinked, as if trying to figure out where she had seen Charlotte. The redhead forced back tears. "How do you feel?"

"Okay, but...who are you? Do I know you?" Floor asked softly. The words sent a stab of pain through Charlotte's heart.

"You...you don't remember me?" she asked, her voice trembling. Floor gave a little shake of the head.

"Should I?" she asked.

"Yes!" Charlotte cried, startling the other woman. "Floor, I'm...I'm your girlfriend, Charlotte. Remember?"

"Girl...friend?" Floor said, as if confused. "I don't think...I have a girlfriend. I had a boyfriend once, but...we broke up." Charlotte couldn't keep back her tears. She swiped at them furiously, but they trickled down her cheeks.

"Floor, we shared everything. Dreams and hopes and good days and bad, smiles and laughter and tears and...and kisses. You have to remember something! Anything, Floor, just one little piece."

"I'm sorry...Charlotte. I don't remember anything. I don't remember you at all. I'm sorry," Floor said softly. She looked sad, and Charlotte could tell she wanted to remember. "Although...I do remember kissing someone, someone very, very special. Someone who made me feel amazing. Like I was high. It was the best feeling in the whole world. She...I think it was a girl...had the sweetest lips. They tasted so good. I wish I could kiss her right now." Floor blinked back tears. Charlotte's heart fluttered. That was how Floor had described what it was like to kiss her for the first time.

"Can I...can I kiss you? And then you can see if I was that girl?" she asked. Floor looked up at her.

"I guess it's worth a shot. I mean, yes, you can." Charlotte leaned down and pressed her lips to Floor's. She felt the other woman kiss back, slowly, hesitantly, then suddenly wrapping her good arm around Charlotte and pulling her in closer. Charlotte knew that kiss had jolted Floor's memory so that now she remembered something about Charlotte, and happy tears slid down her cheeks.

"You remember me," she murmured as they broke off. Floor's eyes were starry as she gazed up at Charlotte.

"You are definitely that girl...Johanna Charlotte Wessels."
