"jooheon, i had no idea you were such a chef, this is delicious."
jooheon grinned over at his boyfriend who happily ate his cooking.
"hyung is pretty awesome," jongdae grinned.
"you added too much salt," jooheon's mother giggled.
"ah, mom, always so critical."
"it tastes great regardless."
"thank you."
"so, tell me, how long have you changkyun known each other, when did this become a thing?"
"well," jooheon smiled and rested a hand on his boyfriend's knee, "we've been going to school together for a long time so i've always known who he was with his popularity. i always adored him from a distance, i didn't have enough confidence to really talk to him until we got assigned a group project together. seeing him up close was like seeing an angel face to face. i knew then that i really wanted him, so i chased him until he said yes."
"you should like an annoying puppy," jooheon's mother grinned shaking her head.
"he is like an annoying puppy," changkyun confirmed.
"hey, it's not my fault you play a mean game of hard to get."
"i'm surprised you even said yes," the older woman's eyes crinkled at the edges as she smiled over at her son's lover.
before changkyun could respond jooheon cut in, "mom, i'm very convincing."
the petite boy blushed as the older sent a wink his way.
"i can see that."
"hyung?"
"yes jongdae."
"have you gotten changkyun flowers yet?"
"what?"
jongdae sat up straighter and looked pointedly at jooheon, "my teacher said that if you love someone you should bring them flowers."
dahyun nodded along with her brother, "and presents like chocolate and stuffed animals."
"jooheon," changkyun pouted, "why haven't you bought me flowers?"
"angel i-"
"i'm kidding silly, you don't need to buy me anything, i already know you love me."
jooheon's siblings giggled.
the elder boy smiled lovingly at changkyun as he whispered to his sister.
oh how he was falling.
-
"angel?"
changkyun hummed in response leaving a resonating warm spot on jooheon's chest.
"i want to tell you something."
the two were curled up beneath jooheon's sheets . hours had passed since dinner, one by one the kids, then jooheon's mother headed off to bed, now they sat in the moonlight quietly enjoying each other's company.
"what is it?" the smaller boy looked up.
"i think..i think i love you."
"you..." changkyun sat up.
i think i love you,
think i love you,
i love you.
"i have never felt this way about anyone before, i don't know how to explain it, but when i'm with you it feels like i'm flying. i love you lim changkyun, i love you."
all changkyun could do was stare at the other boy his mouth agape.
jooheon took changkyun's hand into his own, "please say something angel."
"i just-" he couldn't stop the tears that began rolling down his cheeks, "god, when did i become such a baby."
"it's okay," jooheon brushed his thumb under his eyes, "why are you crying beautiful?"
"i don't know but it feels like my heart is too big for my chest, i can't help it. you always make me feel like i need to cry."
"in a good way or a bad way?"
changkyun giggled as he wiped his tears, "a good way."
"listen, it's okay if you aren't ready to say you love me yet, i know these things take time, but i couldn't hold it back any longer."
"jooheon, telling people the truth has always been hard for me. i've always lied about things i didn't like about my life. i told people my parents loved me so much that they bought me a range rover, when really my father did it to make me keep quiet about his affair. i told people i went on business trips when-"
changkyun bit his lip and looked away, did he really want jooheon to know? he sighed and continued.
"when really i would stay home because of my mental state. i told people that everyone adored me when really they thought i was rude and awful, i told people that my sister went away for schooling when really she died because of-"
the small boy gasped and covered his mouth with both hands.
he didn't realize what he was saying.
it had just came tumbling out.
"changkyun," jooheon whispered.
"no. let me finish," he gulped down his emotion and ignored the sudden wave of sadness that had greeted him.
"i've lied over and over again, because all i ever wanted was for someone to love me, like really love me. i have no idea why i'm even telling you all this. i've never told anyone about any of this but, when i'm with you...it feels like i could say anything. jooheon, there's something different about you than everyone else. i can't pinpoint it but when we're together it's like i can feel that you love me. it's so strange. telling you the truth is hard because i don't want to be dragged through the dirt if you're not serious. i'm scared.
changkyun squinted hard and more tears slipped out.
"i'm so scared," his gentle voice wavered and jooheon reached out to intertwine their fingers, "i'm scared of myself, i'm scared of you, i'm scared of this, but even though i'm afraid i can't deny this feeling. i-"
the brunette closed his eyes and pursed his lips.
"i love you. i love you so much."
jooheon's lips parted as a smile made it's way to his lips.
"stop looking at me like that, you look crazy."
"i love you. iloveyouiloveyouiloveyouiloveyouiloveyou," jooheon gathered changkyun in his arms and repeated those three words into his ear over and over again.
changkyun wrapped his arms around jooheon's shoulders and inhaled deeply and he smiled.
he would never get tired of this feeling.
jooheon pulled back and brought his lips to changkyun's and hovered there for a few moments.
changkyun didn't want to wait so he gripped the back of the older boy's neck and pulled him towards himself.
their lips met and there was a love that they both hadn't experienced yet.
an extremely raw and honest love.
all the truth went into a simple kiss.
regardless of the mess changkyun felt their relationship would make, he loved jooheon.
regardless of things that were said about changkyun, jooheon knew the truth and loved him.
as they said their last goodnights after pulling away both boys went to sleep with smiles pasted across their faces knowing they had each other.
and that they loved each other.
